Maybe those ashes is better up there covering Earth as it is a good way to cool down Earth's atmosphere because of global warming.
Also if remember correctly blowing up volcano is considered an option to give time for nation's to reduce their emissions, it doesn't stop Earth from warming up though, just temporarily slowing it down
I wonder why they don't dig trenches to stop the lava from moving forward and destroying houses, if they do that they could redirect it somewhere safer
