In this video you will see footage after the crazy hurricane hit Freeport, NY. The footage shows some of North Freeport and some of South Freeport right on the canal.

To date, some of the houses are still being rebuilt.

  1. yes indeed. the "You Loot! I Shoot!" is too real. There was a lot of robberies shortly after the hurricane subsided. Riding my bike past that house..the guy was outside on edge…I had to wait ride back around the block when he was gone to take a shot of his fence..he was charged up!

  2. 2004 hurrican iving came thru ga…end result…creek bed jammed up behind my home. got over 4 foot of water and lost everything under that. kinda have to laugh though. grow up on long island, move to the ga mountains and get taken out by a hurricane anyway…a learned experience about FEMA and all that they do not do. prayers to all of long island

  3. oh wow. thank you for checking in. Yes you have to visit. Even though I travel and leave often…i always come back to the folks house to spend time. I love Freeport. Some of the best childhood memories here. Thanks for checking in. wishing you well.

  4. oh wow! I am hoping you were not there when that happened. I heard about that. Some friends on St. Marks told me the entire 1st floor of the house was lost..they had to go up another flight to level 2. Very scary. I still cannot imagine that! Wishing you the best!

  5. Good job documenting. I'm in Lindenhurst and usually do something similar but could not find the heart to even go further than my block there were so many houses torn up the next morning. Glad you got both north and south Freeport, both areas have their great sides. Sad to see all the trees down up north, and the destruction down on the canals.

  6. Excellent video. Thank you for depicting it in a common sense type of way. Music was befitting the tone of the video and everything. You were a true journalist in your own right. You painted an objective picture with your camera. Getting past that, yo, I grew up in Freeport and seeing it like that was surreal. Came looking to find out how the Schnooer was doing, as per a rumor my parents heard in SC that it was no longer there, and was looking for other videos on Freeport. Nothing comprable.

  7. Thank you guys so much for checking in on this video! Means a lot to me. Hopefully Long Island and Far Rockaway will be fully recovered soon. I appreciate all of you for checking this out and leaving comments. Thanks so much once again

  8. such sadness to say the least. thanks though for filming….i grew up in wantagh and worked at webers store.. i'm in georgia now and wasn't able to see what happened to our part of long island.

  9. Thank you for sharing Skye Angel. I am grateful you moved away a few years ago…we used to live down Guy Lombardo on Norton Street and after flooding of the very first noreaster in 1987 or 88…my father decided we should get away from the water…I am sorry to hear your family lost everything.
