The scary thing is that my dad used to live in Thailand and stayed in Koh pi Pi and left 9 days before the tsunami.
Well I’m glad he is safe but I am sorry for lose of those lost in the disaster.
The scale of this event, as well as the staggering amount of people that it killed is still hard to wrap your head around even after all these years… Even if I put it in terms compared to tragedies here in the United States. In terms of a death rate, this tsunami killed fucking 76 times more people then died in the 9/11 attacks. Hell, it killed 14 times more people then died in the Japanese Tsunami in 2011! 227,898 people died from this tsunami… That is unreal

2018 and i am watching this again. it terrifies me always as a viewer. couldnt imagine the fear for those who were really there. the video of the elderly couple that got washed out always breaks my heart. i cant watch it till now i still cover my eyes everytime that part comes where the guy reaching his hands to them before the waves washed them out. RIP to those who perished.
