Hey everyone, I had the most amazing time visiting The Retreat animal sanctuary in Ashford. I thought I’d put myself out of my comfort zone by drawing OUTSIDE!
My sketches are nothing to shout about, but I enjoyed the challenge of trying to capture a living and MOVING subject. Although the sleeping animals were a lot easier to draw!
I’d really recommend visiting The Retreat if you’re ever in the South East of England. Their animals come from ex-farms, etc, and they have a no kill policy. They also sell amazing vegan food in their cafe.

Going for a treat at a retreat is a tongue twister any day even without loosing your voice, haha! That looked like such a lovely place. The pigs seemed so happy! I find drawing live animals to be so difficult. One thing is humans but they might at least sit still for a while on a train or coffee shop, animals just roam about 😛

Your illustrations are so lovely! Poor Lyra was super confused by all the animal noises – she was looking around wondering where the sheep were ?
