The American Strays 2030 Project team was in Houston Texas from August 13 through August 24, 2017 for the sole purpose of quantifying the stray dog epidemic currently plaguing about 2 thirds of Houston city proper.

Using open source GPS tracking software, GoPro cameras mounted to the front of the survey vehicle and 2 spotters taking pics and video to help verify the dogs being found on the streets – the team has been able to determine hundreds of dogs at risk right right now in Houston.

The purpose for the American Strays K9 survey is to better understand the dynamics of the free roaming dog population in Houston, TX.

The GPS data of the dogs along with the video and pics are used to help create various initiatives to help humanely solve the dog population issues.

Images of the dogs are tagged with GPS data so the team can quickly locate them time after time to verify various interventions deployed actually work or to save the dogs through rescue.

In most cases the dogs belong to the people who’s house they are in front of or close to, so we give our partner rescues the information to help educate the owners to be better guardians.

Many instances the dog is truly a homeless dog. And when the dog is truly in peril, ie, injured, nursing puppies, severe mange, etc. It’s rescued asap. The WA2S Films team will be rolling out new dog rescue videos of many dogs in peril we filmed while in Houston.

Here is a perfect example of a dog that would have died due to Hurricane Harvey if the WA2S had not been working with Houston rescue Forgotten Dogs of The Fifth Ward Project:

However, the stakes are very high now – as you can see from the video – hundreds of dogs are truly at risk outside due to the perilous circumstances created by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

We have the locations of where all these dogs should be and we can check with owners in their neighborhoods and look to rescue the dogs that are now suffering due to their new post Hurricane Harvey reality. But we need your help!

Help the World Animal Awareness Society save hundreds of at risk dogs working with dozens of Houston area dog rescues. The work never stops, and we need you. You can see the value of having this type of fresh data to help keep so many animals alive. If we know about them – have identified them – we can save them!

  1. To all the critical people, a lot of the blame for this goes to the SPCA & Humane Soc US. they have a "take the money, screw the animals & the people" policy. So they went in & acted like they were going to help. but didnt. so people who got separated were told their dogs would be safe. But those agencies did nothing except prevent people from getting their doga back. DONT SUPPORT THEM. Give to your LOCAL rescues, ignore their whiny commercials. Its a scam.

  2. I would love to get my hands on those little Chihuahuas. I have an older Chihuahua right now and I would not invade his space with another dog. I have been nursing him through different difficulties in his life with health issues. I made three trips to the Vet this year. I wish Vet were not so expensive. I think many older Americans would love to have pets but the Vets bills can be huge. This deters them from having pets. So sad.

  3. Everybody sins and we ask God to forgive us and keep everyone that went through that hurricane keep them safe even the animal's and people safe dogs cats animals???????????

  4. Oh it makes me want to cry. I don't like to see that many stray dogs.Or any stray dog on the Street. Please people we need to help. Every little bit helps.

  5. This kind of made me sick to my stomach. People from all over the country jumped into help Texas out. Now it time Texas steps up to the plate and takes care of the animals. How could you let this get so out of hand. Clean up your problem with these beautiful babies or no one will help you next time. This is just so nasty. God help these fur babies.

  6. Tails wagging, they come running hearing a kind word. They just want companionship! These are the faces of the animals I worry about each time I hear a storm is coming. I'm appalled knowing thousands got abandoned by their owners, especially knowing that rescuing them takes an army of kind people
