Visiting Rescued Animals at Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary
Spread The Viralist

I had the opportunity to visit rescued animals at Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary. This place is not a zoo. It is a nonprofit organization that has rescued more than 1000 animals over their 30 year history. It’s pretty amazing since they receive absolutely zero federal funding and all of their support comes from from donations, grants, fundraisers, and admission fees. You can visit the sanctuary on the weekends for a small fee, and they are always looking for volunteers.

Fun Facts:
1) Baboons are terrifying. All my fear instincts kicked in when I heard one roar before I even knew the sanctuary had one. It was interesting.
2) Over 500 pounds of raw meat is required to feed the animals on a daily basis.
3) All of the animals at this sanctuary come from abused, injured, unwanted situations – usually they were someone’s “pet” or “business”.
