Grey Owl

Spread The Viralist

Archibald Belaney was a British man who grew up fascinated with Native American culture — so much so that in the early 1900s he left the United Kingdom for Canada, where he reinvented himself as Archie Grey Owl and lived in the wild as a North American Indian trapper. He eventually became an environmental activist after renouncing trapping and hunting. Grey Owl is based on Belaney’s true story, starring Pierce Brosnan in the title role. In 1934, Archie was living a largely solitary life when he met a young woman named Anahareo (Annie Galipeau), an Ojibway Indian nicknamed Pony. Pony is fascinated by Archie, largely because she wants to know about her people’s heritage. Her father, Jim (Graham Greene), is a businessman who wears a suit to work and has little concern for his history; in Archie, Pony sees a link to her past that she can’t find in her family. Archie has little use for Pony at first, but in time the two begin to bond, and it’s Pony who convinces Archie to give up trapping and work to protect animals. She also encourages Archie to write a book about wilderness life in Canada. The book becomes a huge success and makes Archie something of a celebrity, but with recognition come nagging questions about Archie’s true heritage. (In reality, Archie Grey Owl’s true idenity did not become public knowledge until after his death.)

  1. I loved this movie! Humans have managed to destroy 40% of the world animal population and maybe more of our forests and water supply! We are the only ones who can stop the genocide?

  4. I just watched the movie grey owl this is no doubt in my mind the most beautiful piece of work acting that Pierce Bronson has ever done I truly enjoyed this movie so much so I watched it twice I became the character gray owl I felt every emotion that I am sure that it is time that he felt I have seen and even witnessed what we are doing as a people to our environment Texas is my home state so I was born in Alabama but I will have to say without a doubt that this was probably the most beautiful enjoyable and even entertaining movie I have ever seen I would give this 10 Stars and it would Riley deserve it but because of the usual problems that the YouTube movies have you have to turn it up 2/8 just to hear what they are saying and my home I have a surround sound I had to turn it up to 7 just to hear them talk I would hope and pray that the YouTube people will finally see that these movies that they presented though some of them may be good and very entertaining they need to do something about their volume if not then allow us to turn the volume up so we can hear them but this is a thing that the YouTube Network needs to be aware of for future reference I truly enjoyed this movie and I am going to put it in my favorites to watch later

  7. The truth is that Belaney was a hardcore alcoholic whose drinking ultimately killed him. Why was this fact omitted from the film? I guess sanitized versions of reality are preferred to actual reality.

  8. This man didn’t seem to learn that when killing an animal, you have to honor it’s death. There are many ways to do so. He only honored the deer, but not the fox.
