That Chinese factory explosion caused significant issues for the population of Tianjin both during and after the fact, with extremely dangerous amounts of sodium cyanide being blown across the port and into water sources. Rain for several days after the explosion was foamy and caused skin irritation. Definitely the worst part about all this was the state's reaction, with nearly every mention of the explosion that painted the Chinese government in a negative light on social media being censored by internet police. The reason for the explosion was covered up, and any talk on the lasting effects of the explosion, including the sodium cyanide was shut down. Around 170 people died as a direct result of the explosion, and any further deaths due to the aftermath have, of course, been snuffed.
