  1. I'm in the NorthEast US and I really want to encourage everyone to think about the strays that keep your neighborhood rodent and pest free. A wet meal and a bowl of dry food 1x a Day, goes a long way to lessen their suffering. For water and food please don't use metal in cold climates, we don't want any frozen tongues! Online you'll find heated plastic water bowls and outdoor cat shelters with auto-heating beds, which you can place where you feed your outdoor friends and help them make it through the winter. I use the K&H A-Frame Kitty Outdoor Heated House on my apartment's patio. I slowly moved their evening meal from in front of it, to inside; and now they use the shelter to eat and to sleep at night. Also, some evergreens strategically placed around the front of the shelter gives them a secure feeling. Which is important because we're close to a very high traffic area at my apartment complex.

In hotter climates, providing a shelter that offers cover from the weather and gives them a soft, dry, SAFE place to sleep is huge! It doesn't cost that much to alleviate their suffering and make some appreciative friends. It does take them a while to accept kindness as they're so used to humans being cruel, so keep at it. Remember our feline friends aren't really equipped for the outside, their claws and teeth that are great rodent killers AREN't any good against many other animals not to mention cars and trucks. And, in colder climates, they just don't have the right fur coat for the weather and are in danger of freezing. (always a good idea to knock on your vehicle's hood on cold mornings to make sure no one is sleeping in the engine for warmth!) Sadly a stray's life expectancy is the US is only an average of 2 years and it's a tough life, especially for Mother cats. So please consider helping, if you can.

  3. Cats are darn amazing……I wonder if us owners encouraging them really helps. I think it does….if you have a bond with your cat. But, what about those who have cats but use as mice catchers & don't really bond like that. I'm just curious……but I believe it's mostly mom instinct.
