From trapped to rescued in under four minutes!
Spread The Viralist

Sparrowhawk rescues can be some of the most difficult rescues we deal with but, over the years, we have developed a catch method that (usually!) enables a quick and gentle way of containing the bird. Depending on the situation, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to much, much longer.

Our current record is just over 7 hours (but was successful in the end!).

Our team were recently called out to help a sparrowhawk that had become trapped in an MOT garage. As with most birds of prey, it would not fly down to escape through the open door. Simon, Lawrie and Jacob set off to help and, luckily, soon had the bird contained!

With no injuries and with enough street lighting to find a roost for the night, he was set free once more.

  1. Why didn't you take him back to the center for some rest? It was also very dark out there, at least should have wait until the morning before releasing him back!

  2. Hello! I can't call your emergency number because I'm at sea on a ship. Maybe someone will tell me what to do. Small birds fly into the engine room of the ship and can not get back.
If they are not driven away, they will die without water.
If I put a container of water, I'm not sure they'll find it, and you can't put a lot of containers around.
Chase and attempts to trap them useless – too much room and a lot of places where the bird is hiding.
If the bird is dead, it lies at the bottom of the engine room. Fall from above there impossible, means they there descend themselves in search of water or for than something still.
Why can't they leave the same way they came in?
Can we place some decoy beacons among the pipes and ladders, marking their route to the exit?
    Maybe we need some traps?

  3. Had to go to 0.25 speed and still needed a few tries to catch that split second you put in the comment at 01:14 . It is: "Fine. I´ll move myself, then."

And then I had to do it again at 01:52 ?. "Excuse me, what are you doing?!" Yeah, I was wondering the same thing.

  4. Have you guys considered putting a series of magnets around the edges of your net so that when you put them together they magnetize and help hold the nets together? That way it would be easier for you guys to bring birds down from heights like this.

  5. WOW you are soooo good now 😀
I still remember the video where Simon got sooo mad at one of the helpers (cant remember his name) just that he ended up putting HIM in the net insted haha

  6. He is so cute poor baby ? he must be starving because they didn't call you for two days for help , but he is lucky because you saved him without being hurt ? , well done and God bless you ?
