  1. When I was about 6 in the late 70s, we lived in a small town in a small 2 story apartment building, there was this older kid, about 7 or 8, who used to bully me, I was small for my age and naive even for 6 year old (Thanks Autism Spectrum for that BTW), Anyway I was playing on the sidewalk under the second story walkway and I hear a loud crack right behind me, I also felt something smack me in the back and it hurt (I got a good scrape through my shirt from it), I looked behind me and there was a broken brick, part of which had hit me in the back when it shattered on the concrete. I looked up to the 2nd story walkway and that kid was standing there, he had waited for me to look up then started to laugh and said "You lucked out I didn't hit you!" I guess he was right, but at the time I didn't fully grasp what had nearly happened. Death is an abstract thing to a child….

  2. When me and the lads we’re walking home after school the lads started running I thought nothing of it cus they usually do that to make fun of my weight I look behind me to see a massive speeding truck and we were in A tight path way one of my mates Taylor looked behind to see me centermeters away from a speeding vehicle and I’m way to close to the vehicle to run I move out of the way just in time like just walk into the bushes casually perfect timing seconds away from being hit like unrealistically close to the max speed truck Taylor looked back a second time and I was gone he thought I had been injured or died when they were standing around after woulds worried I just walked out the bushes and yelled ayup they were Taylor was dumfounded

  3. The amount of times I’ve almost been hit by a car on my bike in the middle of nowhere is scary. Many of those were trucks or vans speeding on dirt roads in the middle of the forest or of a field.

  4. Me and my family were walking through Louisville, Kentucky and we went to cross a street and my dad had his phone out. Some teenage girl was texting and driving and she had just looked up to see us, she stopped and barely tapped my dad. If she had not have looked up me and him would have probably been hurt or killed.

  5. Omg, my son also aspirated on meconium and had lung suction. Was on respirator and given fentanyl (yes, u read that correctly) got a few days. God bless the NICU at St. Vincent's in Erie, PA where he was flown via chopper which has since been decommissioned due to lack of funding. This terrifies me cuz how many babies won't make it now?

  6. When I was 13 I was making Mac and cheese, when I was turning on the gas stove knob I kept trying to turn it the wrong way until it broke and started leaking gas, still leaking I was trying to light it for like 5 mins before I realized the correct way to turn it right when I fixed the knob and was about too light it my mom came down was yelling at me to stop and that it smelled like gas. I had filled the kitchen with gas and my mom had barely smelled it upstairs. We had to open the windows and let it air out. For some reason I was totally unfazed, and the first thing asked my mom after was some shit like, much longer til I can try and make my Mac n cheese again.

Also we had just moved in and i was used to a shitty electric stove for as long as I could remember making Mac n cheese. The look of worry on my moms face that I had almost blown up my fucking kitchen trying to make Mac and cheese said it all

  7. I don't know how close to dying I was, but back in elementary school during a field day I suddenly started to feel really light headed. I noticed the ground that normally was green grass suddenly looked like a field of straw. I told a teacher I wasn't feeling well. They told me to go over into the shade where there was also a water cooler. I barely made it over before I blacked out. It was only for a few seconds, but despite panting, feeling nauseous and telling the teachers that were just sitting in chairs how I felt, they didn't seem too concerned. They gave me a cup of lukewarm water. I know it was heat exhaustion, and I was lucky not to have gotten heat stroke.

I later learned they didn't even send me to the nurses office or send me home early.

To this day I have serious trouble with overheating. I have to near cooling sources pretty much all the time whenever I do any sort of physical labour, and start feeling sick even if my room gets above 75 degrees Fahrenheit. On the other hand, I can stand a lot colder temperatures than most of the people around me, and am a lot more comfortable the colder it is. I had a couple of pnuemothoraxes (lung collapsed, first down to 50% capacity, then to 30%). I have a harder time breathing in warmer/hotter weather; it feels like I'm trying to breathe molasses or something. Crisp cold air is really nice to breathe in though.

  8. A few years ago I ate a whole tilapia filet, not knowing I was allergic to tilapia.

The doctor said that if my mother had arrived at the hospital a few minutes later, I would have died.

  9. When I was really young, like under 4 years old, I crossed a main road by myself to get to a shop. Horrifyingly, this road was busy, yet I had no money so going to the shop was really stupid. Now at age 12, almost 13, I realized that I almost died

  10. one time when i was 5 i was at the park with my mom and i realized i really had to pee. i was too far away from my mom to go tell her i was going to the bathroom across the street at the gas station, so i basically naruto ran across the street. i ran in and used the bathroom while also hearing my mother yelling at me and chasing after me. when i left the bathroom she hugged me crying.

  11. If someone got their head stuck underwater in a ladder or something, what would i do? Probably use an upturned bucket and put their head inside the oxygen filled upturned bucket… keep repeating every few minutes for fresh air till the pool got emptied.. phew.. i'm panicking …they need to keep oxygen cylinders and masks in swimming pools..

This idea was inspired by Pirates of the Carribean where Jack and Will used an upturned boat to walk on the sea floor!

  12. My mum suffered from a haemorrhage with me, i was 5 weeks premature, my dad saved both me and my mums life by almost fighting both a nurse and a receptionist and pointing to the tons of blood all over the place and my mum, she got an emergancy C-section.

  13. When I was about 8, I was about to go out on my bike when I fancied a snack. So, with my bike helmet on, I dived into my pantry looking for some crisps. My pantry is like an endless mountain of coats, shoes and other random stuff. On the top shelf there was a heavy metal toastie-maker, which just happened to fall smack on top of my head. If I hadn’t been wearing a helmet, I would’ve probably been knocked out, or worse.
