HAWAII UPDATE — Kilauea volcano eruption (December 25, 2019)

Spread The Viralist

Kilauea volcano eruption (Hawaii News Update 2019). Back in May 2018, Hawaii’s Kīlauea volcano kickstarted a months-long eruption that would turn out to be the most destructive in its history. Its Halema’uma’u summit crater progressively collapsed and consumed its surroundings, while magma draining from below fed rivers and fountains of lava streaming out of its eastern flanks. Ultimately, the volcano expelled some 320,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools’ worth of lava.

Like similar eruptions around the world, those featuring a cauldron-like summit and plenty of lava, it was assumed the magma reservoir feeding Kīlauea’s mighty convulsion had run empty. But a new study published in Science this month has provided a baffling plot twist. Based on the changing dimensions of the volcano throughout the eruption, as little as 11 percent and no more than 33 percent of that magma reservoir was drained by the end of the eruption.

  1. So beautiful- the magma geysers – dangerous but wonderful our planet. Let’s keep exploring and work to protect this incredible pebble in the universe.

  2. The big question is why has local authorities allowed buildings along the main rift. Surly if authorities allowed building then insurance companies should be able to go after these local authorities for their costs.

  3. Wow. Seriously. Just, wow. How many of you commenting on here saying its old footage, watched it longer than 30 seconds? Because literally, at 50 seconds in, it switches to updated footage, LITERALLY POPS UP when footage changes, and says, "Hawaii, December 2019" .

I watched the whole thing. Some incredible footage in there. That fountain of lava coming out in the middle of dead flats, has got to be 200-300ft tall, if those trees out at the rim of the burn ring are at all close to 100ft tall. Im just guessing off of comparison. If so, that would be a site to behold in person. Insane.

  4. pathetic title and clickbait… I was concerned for my friend who lives near there…. and now find out it's fake – did not happen on Christmas 2019…. from last year…. change the title or remove the video… asshats

  5. Fake news. This was last year in 2018. Google this: Is Kilauea still erupting 2019?
    (the answer)
The pond at the bottom of Halema'uma'u, which began forming on July 25, 2019, continues to slowly expand and deepen. Although not currently erupting, areas of persistently elevated ground temperatures and minor release of gases are still found in the vicinity of the 2018 lower East Rift Zone fissures.
