San Pedro de Atacama, Valle de Luna, Chuquicamata……locations of some of my fondest memories. And if you haven't done it already, make sure that you drive at least 50 km into the desert, away from all man-made lights, on the night of a new moon. You will see the starry night of your lifetime, I promise. Dry air, lack of man-made lights and elevation is why there are multiple observatories on the mountains of the Atacama.

The phenomenon that you guys experienced is called “inverno andino” or “invierno boliviano” it happens around the summer in locations close to Cordillera de los Andes and it includes storms, rain, wind, etc. It’s not always like that in San Pedro, usually it’s quite sunny with the clearest skies, anyway it’s an amazing and breath taking place. Hey Trent, you need bungie cords for your basket. It needs to have 'give' when you hit those bumps. Otherwise the 'tight' fit of the the zip ties, causes the issue of snapping, and then results in your small crisis of 'basket drop off'. Same principal as airplane wings. They go straight thru the plane as one piece. When they hit turbulance or are effected by air pressure, they bend up and down, not snap off. Try it (bungie cords) good luck!
Technically (Yeah, I'm going to be THAT guy today), the Atacama Desert is NOT the driest desert in the world, it's the driest NON-POLAR desert in the world. The driest place on Earth is in Antarctica in an area called the Dry Valleys, which has seen no rain for nearly 2 million years (now THAT'S a desert). There is absolutely no precipitation in this region and it makes up a 4800 square kilometer region of almost no water, ice or snow.

I just binge watched the last week. I'm glad I watched the last two first because I would have been worried about Frank all week. So glad he is okay, poor baby? that must have really hurt. He's a healthy dog to be able to heal like that. Give him some lovin for me.?? the floating islands were cool. The rock climbing made my fingers tingle. Frank chasing the seagulls was even better the second time knowing he had hurt his foot the week before. The hand was cool. Your camera must be a good one because we could hear you perfectly in the wind. Is it just me or does your new drone go a lot higher and further out than it used too. Anyway the drone shots have been amazing. The last sunset was really beautiful. Poor Allie eating that spicy chicken while you Trent were sitting there all smug with that s#!+ eating grin on your face was funny.? Actually Trent, tomatoes are not that healthy. They are full of lectins, that can cause a leaky gut, and give you internal infections. Actually the vegetable with the most lectins.
Did you get a chance to check out the nighttime sky? Supposedly, it's one of the best places in the world to view the Universe… hence so many international Observatories nearby.

A friend of mine just got done doing some quick motorcycle touring through parts of Argentina and Chile. He was showing me pictures and video and I was like "WAIT, I KNOW THAT TOWN." He was there on what may actually have been the same day, and also got caught up in the rain. Small world. Totally have to go see this place for myself now!

Here's a positive spin on your rain. The average annual rainfall is 0.6". Some places there haven't had rain for 4 year long stretches. SOME stations have NEVER received any rain. How many non-residents can claim they've been in the Atacama when it was raining? You can! _;o)__
