The incident was captured on a surveillance video. A woman in São Leopoldo (RS)-Brazil dumped her disabled dog on the side of the road and then sped off. She stopped the car and opened the back passenger door. A black dog hopped out and she grabbed a white dog by the scruff of his neck and put him on the pavement next to the car.
She then told the black dog to get back in the car and shut the back door. The white dog’s front legs are deformed and he is unable to use them. He hopped on his back legs to try and get back to the car, but the woman pushed him away from the car and the poor dog fell on his face.
The woman returned to her car and sped off, leaving the handicapped dog hopping after the car. It turns out that the woman left the dog on the same street as her husband’s office. The husband found the dog wandering the street and took him to Secretariat of Animal Protection (Sempa).
Officers managed to trace the owners – who admitted to being the same pair who had abandoned Tintin earlier in the day.
Anderson Ribeiro, boss of the Secretariat of Animal Protection in Sao Leopoldo, said the man walked in with the animal on a leash and said he found him of the streets.
Ribeiro says he has passed his information over to police, who confirmed they are investigating on a charge of animal abuse and have called witnesses to testify.
The penalty for animal abuse ranges from three months to a year in jail and a fine.
He has now been placed at an animal shelter and 20 people have inquired about adopting him.
However, authorities say they will take their time in picking a new home based upon who is best able to care for his specialist needs.
