Do you ever feel like everything in the world is going just a little too well, that you’re waiting for something to finally go wrong for once? No? Not lately? Well, how about a story that reminds you that things could somehow be worse?

Disaster films provide us with an opportunity to imagine what we would do to survive the unthinkable. If you’re looking to have that kind of experience from the safety of your living room, we’ve got some recommendations for the best disaster films you can watch right now.

What happens when a group of highly resourceful people are faced with a close encounter of the third kind? That’s the question answered by Occupation, an indie alien invasion thriller from Down Under about a contingent of citizens who forge a resistance movement after their rural community is decimated by heavily armed extraterrestrials.

While Occupation may not be as slickly polished as your average Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich disaster blockbuster, director Luke Sparke and his crew make impressive use of their limited budget. Meanwhile, the action is grounded by the interpersonal drama playing out among a talented cast.

  1. Wandering Earth is great but silly science fiction however, it is spoiled by being dubbed, and would be so much better subtitled.

  2. Anybody else curious as to why Bella hadid is in the thumbnail??? Like last time I checked she didn’t have a disaster movie credit on her IMDb………

  3. I don't need to watch disaster films on Netflix when we are all watching Disaster Real Life on the News, Youtube, LiveLeak, ect ect..
