TODAY IN HISTORY, On December 26th, 2004 a sea-quake measuring 9.1 on the Richter scale, shook the seabed off the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The result are tsunamis that hit with meter-high tidal waves and with devastating impact on the coasts of neighboring countries, as seen here in Thailand. People drown in the floods, entire coastal regions of Sumatra, Thailand, Sri Lanka and other countries are partially or even completely destroyed. The tsunami disaster in Asia and Africa caused the death of more than 230,000 people, and is one of the worst natural disasters in human history, but also turned into one of the worlds biggest fund-raising campaigns.
