On Day 4 in South Korea, we decided to take a day trip to Nami Island, which is a famous touristy island a couple hours away from Seoul. Once we arrived, we had a dish called dak galbi. It was an alright day, but not my favorite.
00:24 Metro to Gapyeong Station – 2,250 Won ($1.90) – One of the things that truly amazing me about Seoul is that the public Metro / Subway is incredibly extensive. You can even travel for hours and get way out of the city, but still using the Seoul Metro. On this trip it literally took us about 2 full hours to arrive to Gapyeong Station. We made a couple transfers, but eventually made it, and had to take a quick taxi ride to Nami Pier.
1:48 Dak Galbi (닭갈비) – For lunch, before taking the boat across the Nami Island, we stopped at a restaurant near the pier to eat a Korean dish called Dak Galbi (닭갈비), which is chicken and cabbage with rice caked all cooked on a huge pan in front of you with lots of sweet chili paste. It was a lot of fun to eat and cook, but I’m not a huge fan of the sweet chili paste. I usually prefer the sour and spicy chili as opposed to the sweet chili paste. But still, it was a fun meal and dak galbi is a popular Korean food especially with the younger generation. Total price – 46,000 Won ($38.92) for 4
5:54 Nami Island (Namiseom Island 남이섬 종합휴양지) – 10,000 Won ($8.46) per person – After lunch we walked over to the Nami Island pier, bought out tickets, and then took the ferry boat to the island. Nami Island is mostly famous because it was featured on some Korean movies and tv shows, I think. Overall, it was very touristy, and it was just kind of like a nice park, but it was so busy. The best thing about visiting Nami Island for me was eating a skewer of grilled lamb with cumin, wow that was good.
For dinner, we just went into Lotte Supermarket and bought some groceries and ate at home in our apartment.

I just realized S Korea is a mixture of Japanese and Vietnamese
I can tell when he doesn’t like his food ??
Very polite still…
As somone who's lived in Korea for over a decade, it's actually reassuring to see and hear Mark's honest yet respectful responses in this video. I've been to Nami Island and let me tell you, this is the last place I'd take anyone I know who's come to visit Korea. It's a tourist trap with nothing worth seeing/experiencing. Feel bad that Mark had to experience this side of Korea but glad others who watch his vids will get his hints and stay away from the island. Also, the style of dalkgalbi he had isn't really my thing either. I'd much rather have the charcoal grilled version of dalkgalbi, called 숯불닭갈비 "Seuht-bool dalk gal bi" and I wish he had tried that instead cuz nearby Chuncheon has some of the best there is in Korea. It seriously baffles my mind that this place is always near the top of the recommended tourist attractions when you google things to do in Korea…
The disturbed beat unknowingly sparkle because waitress temporarily file off a hissing barge. defeated, foamy swim
Can't believe you greedily ate cabbage that was sitting in the pan with raw chicken. Hope you got real sick…bad impression off the bat.
Korean food is diverse, but especially the soup culture and meat seem to be characterized by lettuce wraps. And there are so many different side dishes(specially various types of Kimchi) that go well with rice.
U didnt like the lunch that much …I understood from ur expression ????
You're suppose to one bite those wraps.
The food is one of the best foods in Korea!
ugh those long trips kill your day
Mark, you eat the noodles first. that's all i wanted to say
the best thing about Dak Galbi is the rice, that they add and fry with the remaining sauce and veggies ….. People go there for that and not for the chicken …. you missed the highlight ?
Hi Mark, I know Ying is taking the video, is the lady always sit next to you is Ying's sister?
개사기… 저게 3인분양의 고기냐….
THE KOREAN SUBWAY IS THE BEST
Seoul street food very nice?? good video???
Korea is so clean ?
good video? near that women only eating no reaction.?
I'm so happy Mark decided to be honest about the first food he tasted in this video because those of us who watch him regularly, we knew it wasn't his favorite.. How? because everyone knows if you don't see the eyes roll up, the slow lean to the left.. it's not that good.. lolol…
I'm Korean and I don't get dakgalbi either, didn't grow up with it, I think its a relatively new dish. But people swear by it, different strokes i guess.
맛있겠네 yum yum
Anyhow ur dng video on showing different food same way concentrate on showing places nd der importance
Love your videos always
Your expression said it all eating the chicken. I knew you didn’t like it much! ?
Tania????♂️???
이분 뭐야 진짜 한국을 느끼고 맛있는거 드셨네 배고프다
"Esse gringo, é um show…
de Hulmildade e Simpatia".
Já ganhou mais uma escrita! ?
I watched 3 of your videos, and after everyone one them I snacked. Your videos are making me fat. In a good way
Dak galbi in Nami is too touristic dish. You should have tried other fancy restaurant in other city.
I think I finally figured out how Mark eats so much….
Been there the food not tasty at all .. strange taste ..I don’t like kimchi sour and salty maybe that was the reason the food taste bad .
??????you dont like touristy, yet that's what you do for a living ! Im the same way- if I go on vacay- I want local fare, not tourist traps.
I've been binge watching Mark's videos and what I really appreciate about watching his videos in Korea is that most of the places that he goes to are not the most popular, fancy, well-known places. It means that he is likely to be in restaurants where any other visitor to Korea can end up going to, and this represents the kind of experience that anyone who visits can expect and get
mmmmm making me hungry XD
I am not going to Nami Island ever !, thanks for the advice and thanks for going there and showing how bad it is.
When you ate Dakgalbi, one step was missing. that is fried rice. Mark must be dissapointed with it and refused to accept the offer an auntie suggested to have fried rice consecutively. Mark was no better than to eat just half of Dakgalbi.
2:43 Who's that girl sitting right next to Mark?? She is my right girl. very pretty and attractive. Is she one of your staff who helps your work, Mark???
Korean food is very very delicious ???
Hi Mark. I’m sure your wife and sisters in law were a big fan of Winter Sonata, the Korean soap opera that made Nami Island famous and as you say ‘ tourisy.” It was also a big hit in Thailand, the whole of Asia actually. Even if you recommend not to ge there, fans will do.
4:25 even cows are ashamed of how you eat man. Comoon. Eat smaller pieces.
You should go to ChunCheon if you want to have real Dakgalbi.
Thank you very much for the video Mark.
คุงมาร์คขอบคุณมากสำหรับวิดีโอครับ
I never knew that at Korean restaurants they have you make the dak galbi. I’ve been to Korea but they never did that but that’s when I was very young so is it a new thing or did they usually do that?
I think that this is the first time I have ever seen Mark truly disappoint with an outing.
Surprised that fried rice was not made in the dak galbi pan after the pan was mostly empty.
You know the food is good when he closes his eyes and nods lol
