The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the family Felidae; it is a muscular, deep-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck and round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. I love the rivalry between lions and buffalos. Both have the perfect combination of individual strength and collective support to overcome each other. The lions have to hunt buffalos in pride or on their own (male lions) while the buffalos can defend themselves as well as count on their herd to save them.
On the other hand, rhinos, hippos and elephants are too big for lions, even with pride support. The buffalo is just the right size (only four to five times their weight). Giraffes may be too scarce for lions to have enough meat while other animals (gazelle, warthogs)are more like snacks.
