Expected Hurricane Andrew, Iniki, and Pauline to made the list, but I guess the death toll isn't high enough for them to qualify.
As a sheltered American, I was looking for Hurricane Andrew and the Northridge, CA earthquake. Then I looked up the damage they caused, and it pales in comparison to what the entries on this list did. It's a sobering experience that makes me VERY thankful that I live in a first-world country.
Flood in Poland 1997, especially in Wroclaw…
I was only born in 1998. I was a baby/toddler at the time, I didn’t know this was even going on. But, man, this was rough.
The Kobe earthquake was on the first anniversary of the Northridge earthquake.
I would have sworn that Hurricane Andrew would've made the list…I just moved to Miami after graduating from HS in NYC in 1991 and not even a year in, Andrew hit.
Hey MJ, not even an honorable mention for Hurricane Andrew? One of the rare times I down-voted your videos…..
You forgot the 1991 Mt. Pinatubo Eruption
You know a disaster was truly devastating when even the most vicious gang on the planet does humanitarian work in the aftermath
Alright, Monserrat 1995-1997 deserved, IMO to be on the list for historical significance, because that (at that time) wiped out an entire island and affected several other Caribbean islands who were having to take in refugees, and led to the toppling of the Monserratian government at the time. And led to the world's only capital city with a population of 0, as well. No, it didn't kill thousands of people, but for sheer impact I feel like it should be there really.
EDIT: Oh and Kobe clamed the world famous Barings Bank as well due to the financial impact. Short version was Nick Leeson made a bunch of ultra aggressive investments and the earthquake killed the markets and with it, Leeson's investments and the bank collapsed due to it. There's way more than that, so read up on it, it's fascinating stuff
I was not expecting that Seconds from Disaster clip…alright, so if Monserrat gets on the list, is that two SfD clips then?
The Shown Hurricane Linda was the wrong one. That one didn't do much, apart from the fact that it became the Most Intense Pacific Hurricane on record until 2015.
I was only 4 years old when Hurricane Mitch stroke Guatemala. I don't recall it but until this day, my parents speak of it with a lot of respect and fear for Mother Nature.
3:04. Wow. I really didn't know that.
2:46–2:52. I've seen those shots from Nature's Rage.
2:04. I was 6-7 months old when Kobe Japan was hit by that earthquake on January 17,1995. A year to the day after the Northridge earthquake.
1990 Luzon Earthquake and Mt. Pinatubo Eruption wasnt here tho :<
The one that will always stick out to me is the May 3rd 1999 tornado.
And yet no mention of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake and El Niño.
I know this is natural disasters from the 90s but I was expecting to Hurricane Katrina on the list because I'm an idiot
