Two Rehabilitated Sea Turtles Returned to Ocean From Auckland Aquarium
Two rescued sea turtles have been released back into the ocean on March 17, after undergoing successful rehabilitation stints at SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium in Auckland, New Zealand.
Footage shared by the aquarium shows the turtles being transported to a marine reserve, where they were released into the water.
A loggerhead turtle named Kibou, and a green sea turtle named Spock, were returned to the ocean by a team made up of locals, aquarium and veterinary staff off the coast of Tutukaka, the aquarium said.
Kibou had been nursed back to health after being found stranded on a beach with a severe shoulder wound and a “nasty” lung infection, while Spock had to have digits on her front flippers amputated but made a full recovery, the aquarium said.
