On Jan. 28, 1986, seven astronauts “slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God.” America’s space program was never the same.

Met Mr Ronald McNair in elementary school . His niece was my class mate . Unforgettable memory. This still hurts 35 years later. Wow

Fun fact: NASA actually planned to put big bird from sesame street on a space ship but unfortunately they found out that big bird was too big for the inside of the space ship so they decided to put a teacher on instead. Anyways, then the challenger exploded.
19:22 It hurts to hear
Had the NASA "leadership" taken the advice of JUST ONE very knowledgeable engineer, this tragedy and could have been prevented.
"obviously a major malfunction.. *
I remember this happening when I was in elementary school
I was in the third grade watching this live on TV
Is that Interstaller music in the background ?
remember when NYT prioritised bringing information to people?
I was 20 years old. I remember
The ironically named Joe Kilminster. Killed several misters and missuses that day.
Lots of people got thrown under the bus, plain and simple.
When money becomes more concerned than a life, unethical things happen.
Nasa knew they going to be die..
They killed their people
No launch escape system, and green lighting janky send o rings. That right thier is a big red flag in the shuttle's engineering.
Fast forward to spacex with their vertical landing re useable rockets and half week turnaround between launches.
Sad on all levels
joe is responsible for their deaths he sighed off on it smh
And now NASA pay SpaceX
Imagine being that one engineer who's integrity would not let him sign off on the launch, probably thinking to himself that his refusal would cost him his job. While it may not have been enough to save the lives of the crew, alteast he saved his own life. Now he can atleast live guilt free knowing he did the right thing.
Pink Shirt when he gives permission to the crew to full throttle up and then almost immediately, an explosion, and the look on his face expresses it perfectly “I’ve just killed them all” I feel so terrible for that man
Where’s Americas space force to take its astronauts to space?
Fun fact: the date (except year) is my birthday. Man thats messed up…
Reminds me of my previous days at Raytheon and the engineers that replaced case hardened bolts with stainless steel ones just for the sake of cosmetics … in other words; just to look nice. This violated the specification and will put people in grave danger. I look back and only regret that I did not blow the whistle. If one day and there is a certain death of a young Air Force service technician… then it will then get to me. Meanwhile; there is a time bomb that sits and waits…..
Here I sit in NOVEMBER 2021 and we finally have sent Americans on an American rocket back to space. Not on a NASA rocket though. I’m highly anticipating the launch of SLS as it sits fully stacked in the NASA VAB.
"We made a grievous error." That is the understatement of the century
didnt ppl learn anything from the tower of Babel ☝
I remember we watched this in 5th grade. It was made such a big deal because a teacher was on board…. They even had us all turn our outside lights on at home, we were told they would see it…..
That ' malfunction' effed us up.
This is the one thing we didn't want to happen
I feel sorry for the engineers like Roger Boisjoly.
Allan MacDonald refusing to sign the launch rational was really smart because if he did sign it then it's taking risks he shouldn't be taking.
Ok they didn't listen to the experts about the temperature having to be at least 54 degrees so just look at the damage that did to the space shuttle launches.
