On 23 November 1996, Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 is forced to ditch after running out of fuel. The aircraft breaks up as the wings hit the water, killing 125 people. The aircraft had been hijacked and ran out of fuel because the hijackers did not believe the pilot’s insistence that there was not enough fuel aboard to make it to the hijackers’ planned destination, Australia.

crazy that it took Larry Silver Stien demolishing 3 buildings (trade centers 1,2, and 7) for airlines to secure the cockpits…. yes 3 buildings came down in New York on 9/11.. if u didn't know that, go educate urself. craziest part of the whole thing was, they were not even hijackings. unless u wanna believe that paper passports survived the heat that melted steel and brought the buildings down.

The hijackers failed to both watch air disaster documentaries as well as use basic logic principles to understand that "without fuel the plane cannot fly" (!?)
While this docu series is srsly addicting and entertaining to watch, I absolutely gained knowledge in basic safety protocols on how to survive a plane crash on water: DONT INFLATE YOUR LIFE JACKETS YET.
I think the only successful water landing I know of was the miracle on the Hudson in 2009, which that plane was a lot easier to land and there were emergency services right there. It's a lot harder with a 747 in a remote location. I think this documentary was made before the miracle on the Hudson

I get that the times were different back then before 9/11 but the lack of security of the cockpit and how easily passengers could enter it still feels insane to me.

Very brave man. He kept his head despite the idiot hijackers. So, they wanted a better life, huh? Then they should have used their brains and paid attention to the fuel gauge, which would have clearly been dropping at a steady rate the whole time, proving that the pilot wasn't lying! But I guess they didn't care THAT much about their lives. 🙄 I'd make some Darwin award comment except that they murdered over 100 people along the way…so tragic. 🙁
