6. The theory in The Day After Tomorrow is happening as we speak. Just slower than in the movie of course. Cause is only 90 minutes.

8. Contagion should have been higher up. If COVID had been just a tiny bit deadlier, it would have been Contagion exactly. And it was mentioned in the video, but the most accurate part was how we as a people would react to it. From the looting of stores and fighting people over supplies to spreading misinformation, to stealing doses of vaccine. It was so so very prescient. Too prescient.

11. I'm going with the title of this being misleading. "This movie could happen… except for the silly movie elements" — especially The Day After Tomorrow. That we're heading to an ice age — yes. The absolute butchering of science, and how constantly inaccurate the scientists are in that movie is awful.

    It's more like "the premise of these movies could really happen."

    Some movies (as was mentioned) are much more scientifically accurate, but "that's for another list."

17. The thing that drove me nuts with Contagion was the fact that Matt Damon’s character was exposed to the virus and was completely immune! IRL he would have become a pin cushion of blood donations to figure out how he didn’t get sick and to make a cure from it. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

19. The Day After Tomorrow does not belong on this list. A shutdown of the Gulf Stream is a possibility and would be a massive shift and cause major problems but nowhere even remotely close at all to the scale of everything shown in the movie. If you're using a standard of starting with an actual basis and taking it to ridiculous extreme, then there's a very wide net of disaster movies you could pick. Like for video games, at that point, you could be like "well the cordyceps concept is real therefore The Last of Us could happen".
