The Indonesian province of West Papua was hit by a tidal wave on February 22, 2022, destroying 40 houses in a fishing village and leaving hundreds of residents homeless. Another 229 people reportedly lost their homes in a beach area of Sorong city. The tidal wave also damaged fishing boats and public facilities. Local authorities have set up tents and a soup kitchen for the affected families.
