The Dark Side Of Amish Country

The Dark Side Of Amish Country
Spread The Viralist

The Amish as we think of them trace their roots back to the late 17th century, when the leader of a group of Mennonite Anabaptists named Jakob Ammann introduced an ideology that was heavily focused on the social shunning of “fallen” believers. By the 18th century, the Amish began to migrate to North America in search of religious freedom.
It’s here that modern day Amish continue to live life reminiscent of the old days, eschewing modern technology for a simpler way of doing things. But this quaint community has a whole host of issues that range from drinking, to pollution, and even genetic disorders. This is the dark side of Amish Country.

  1. Every group of people has a "dark side". You want me to pick out the faults of non-Amish? Because I guarantee you the list will be much longer. You're attacking a group of people who are overwhelmingly kind, peaceful, and pacifist. I hate these types of videos, picking out a few bad apples to paint the entire group that way, so insanely ignorant.

  2. Dang! What y'all have against the Amish? Theyre human too. Iits like theyre expected to be perfect. And the things said about the damage old school farm equitment does to soil is a complete load of bs.
Best moonshine Ive ever drank came from the Amish.
I used to work house keeping at a hotel and there was a couple Amish families staying in one room. It was the most trashed hotel room I ever cleaned. Guess they took advantage of not having to do that work.

  3. Last year in Geauga county, Ohio a van driver on all kind of drugs went left of center and hit a semi. Six of seven amish people died. How sad druggies drive them around for their addiction. People are people. There's good and bad in every society.

  4. My Amish family came here in 1727 from Bern, Switzerland. Today there are very few of my family who are still Amish.i did get the time of my life spending my Summer vacation living and working on my uncles farm. Amish / Mennonite Life was very enjoyable as a kid, however as I grew older I didn’t think it was for me. I still keep in touch with the last group of the Haldeman clan and attend the reunions. Most live very modern lives today.

  5. And yet. I grew up on a York County PA farm that had soil a yard deep when Thomas Penn deeded it in the early 1700s. By the time we worked it, there was a foot left. The Amish in neighboring Lancaster boast the highest per-acre yields of non-irrigated farmland anywhere so they must be doing something right. Compelled by their bishops to refrain from anything but cash transactions, they drive around in those buggies with hundreds of thousands in coffee cans, to purchase more land for their kids. Everyone has the chance to experiment with "worldly" life at 19 and then they decide if they want to live the Old Order lifestyle, so it's not a rigid theocracy as one may think.

  6. easier to hold a single small farmer responsible than large corporate farms who pay lobbyists to "encourage" politicians to help them by shaping environmental laws to their benefit.

  7. Plz stop demonizing these nice communities. They live happily and peacefully. Most of the US population has no faith, no culture and no meaning to their lives thus they are desperate and miserable. We should encourage those who try to live normal lives like Amish people.

  8. I've never seen any particular virtue in freezing yourself in the 18th Century. Where does the Bible call for that? The Amish and Mennonites appear charming and nostalgic but that is appearance only. They are mere mortals like the rest of us and subject to the same vices and lusts that have plagued Mankind since we were booted out of Eden. The secrecy and harsh treatment of the women and animals seems more in line with 7th Century thinking such as is common in Islam. The diseases they suffer are the result of in-breeding.

  9. Such killing of children and horses in buggy traffic accidents is totally unacceptable. Since when is cruelty acceptable? How can folks claim to be religious and not give a darn about the treatment of innocent animals? Totally disgusting!

  10. Well done video. This guy has a really good voice for media work. The facts are correct. I was surprised to hear the Cohen Disease being mentioned too ~ it has made many Amish start to think if having more children is a good thing once that starts turning up in their children (genetic disease that is very dominant). They have too small of a genetic pool and this will happen in people like them. There has been one genetic marker found for autism as well. The reason like this program will tell you, it is hard to get any information about their genetic pool as they refuse to give blood for that reason. The reason they got that blood sample for autism was because the family left the Amish in search of support they could not have while living amongst them. It all teeters on the Bishop and what he will allow. Some Cohen Disease Children require gastric feeds, and some Bishops have allowed a solar panel to electrically run the machines. There is a big liver disease problem that is born in some children, where they can not get rid of the build up of bile in their systems and require ultra violet lamb therapy. PS they refuse to have any and all vaccines including the COVID-19 so they will over time have less as they die from the different kinds of COVID-19. They only go to grade 10 education. That explains it all ~ If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. ;~/

  11. Organized religion, whoopie doo. In the last six months I have seen over a dozen baptist ministers and officers busted for child porn and pedophilia. The church I grew up in was loaded with corruption. They are a bunch of crap.

  12. Concerned about humanity and society????? GO 30 MILES EAST FROM LANCASTER – Kesington Ave in Philadelphia – you may find your cousins there. STOP THIS STINKY PROPAGANDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Inbreeding diseases? hm… hemophilia… who would have that? Maybe help them first, they have had it for centuries
dog cruelty? hm…. Fauci and the happy beagle story – do you care?
Amish are awesome, I love them and they worked for some of my projects, very good people. God bless them.
