With technological advancements in aviation, you would think that today’s fighter jets would be faster than 60 years ago. But they are not! They are even slower and the reason, is

  1. F4: MAX speed, reheat: Mach 2.23 , supercruise, (military power) 1.5
F22: MAX speed, reheat: Mach 2.25 , supercruise, (military power) 1.8

Cherry picking examples is not fair.
You cannot compare a freaking VTOL multipurpose frame to a hardcore interceptor platform.

Granted the F22 isn't much faster in reheat, but the difference in supercruise speed is substantial.

  2. A British pilot wrote that they were never able to get their Phantoms to go more than about Mach 1.8 or 9, and Phantoms that were able to go Mach 2.2 must have been somehow stripped down and souped up.

  3. This guy was basically paid by Lockheed to argue that speed is literally a disadvantage in battle. I'm even getting Lockheed ads in my french canadian television programs, that's how desperate they are…

  4. I'll give you the honest answer as U.S. airman, it's because you don't need the speed when you're meant to out maneuver somebody. Speed means larger turn radius which is ineffective in some situations

  5. Man the loop holes yall jump through to justify the F-35 Being good is amazing.

Only the F-35 is a slow piece of shit.

No other 5th gen is that slow.

  6. remember that supersonic flight is not just flying superfast, you are trying to fly through butter. So turning at supersonic speeds is more likely to rip the aircraft to shreds.
