   Maybe it's more of a preference thing, but one rule I stick to when training or playing is to never reward them for pulling something out of my hands, and keep it from happening as much as possible. Instead, if they do take something from my hands, like a pull-rope toy, I reward them for bringing to right back to me. I do it to discourage the development of any behavior of stealing and running from people, especially food.

   Although it might seem a little strict, when dogs steal things it makes people angry and then the dogs have to face angry people and punishment, not to mention if they try eating something dangerous for them.

   So as their guardian I just prefer using other fun ways to play and train instead. It doesn't make it less fun for them, and they get to avoid some unhappy moments.
