So, what is geography? In our first episode of Crash Course Geography, we will endeavor to answer this seemingly simple question with the help of a similarly simple factoid: that the US imports more than 3 billion pounds of bananas from Guatemala each year. But as it turns out, beneath the kinds of factoids we usually associate with Geography are much grander stories that really are Geography. So let’s go a little bananas as we explore the sordid history of the Chiquita banana.

So chuffed about this one, people really dislike geography for no reason and this is great, she sounds so passionate and the animation is also ace.
Question. How do you properly pronounce Papua new Guinea, specificaly the Papua part. I have tried looking it up but get incredibly varied answers
She’s still talking about bananas
AHHH! So happy for this series! Currently starting my MSc in Geography and so happy more people will learn of the vastness of this field!
5:33 wait why did they merge
In 2018 I discovered that there was a world beyond Psychology that explains humans. Then I took Human Geography and discovered that where was a valid question to ask.. That's when I became a Human Geographer.
I keep hearing this word "banana."
You mean chom-choms?
This is great, I’m a history student but I’m interested to watch this crash course to help with when geography can be useful in my work. Best non-John Green Crash course I’ve seen.
Great video … Great teacher 👍👍
this video has reminded me that I need to make banana bread and get rid of some of those bananas in my freezer.
Hey, they're called Chom-choms! Get it right!
So when are you gonna upload the next ep?
Please make videos on Indian climate and natural vegetation
All I can say is…it's time to learn geography NOW!
But seriously, very excited for this series 🙂
Wow.. I never thought "Banana Republic" have very real history.. I thought it's just an expression.. 😅
So good!! I like learning!😄😆
Americans are not really good in geography based on what i've seen on twitter
This is bananas
Great video
Please, use metrics too, many people who watch you aren't from US. <3
If all teachers were able to show such enthusiasm for their subjects, school would be a way better place!
👍👍👍👍👍
As someone who grew up in the US, but is originally from Guatemala I thoroughly appreciated this video. I can't wait to continue to watch this series.
so excited for more episodes!
I am so beyond excited for this series. Oh my goodness.
This is SUCH an underappreciated topic!!
Thanks for using the metric system and celsius.
this video is amazing!
What an epic transition pun to the thought bubble
The content is really great, but the woman in the video speaks so fast that I thought I had the video at 1.5 speed at first.
For someone who is pretty fluent in english but doesn't speak it as a native tounge it's sometimes hard to keep up.
I´m so excited about this series!!! Keep up the great work!
This was really great! Alize is a great host! Excited for more! I’ve been looking forward to Crash Course Geography for a long time!
I am so glad that you are putting together a Geography Crash Course series. I have taught Geography and I would have loved to use your videos. I will be watching them because once a geography teacher, always a geography teacher.
this was nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Her debut was amazing. I’ll be sure to be here next week✊🏾
I took a geography class several times in college and high school (About 2 times for fun, 2 required). I passed each time. Each time they taught me something new. And each time they were just about the basics. And each time they were immersive and massive filled with such a strong world view. I wish we loved Geography more. The people that know less tend to be the most self-repressed.
So incredibly excited for this series!
Much better than the first world geography. Really admired Johns ownership of the last ones flaws. Crash course is the best
Yay! I have been waiting for this!
i've been waiting for this
sorry, was really interested, but way to fast speaking just turns me off.
Today, I was thinking that ever since the old disastrous Crash Course Geography that resulted in an apology, I should search up "Crash course Geography" on YouTube. I realised that this video was only uploaded 20 hours ago

Bananas are chom-choms.
This is freakin' awesome. I'm so stoked for this series!
LOVE CRASH COURSE. I must be getting old because I never thought I would watch crash course videos for fun
