  1. Wish we could get an update on Yosemite, together with the kiddo who wrote his letter??!!!!!
That's an adorable picture they drew. If I lived closer I would have definitely taken him home (Gauteng, South Africa).

  2. this actually brought some tears to my eyes. there's nothing more pure than a love from a dog and a child.

  3. What a great teacher. She has given all of her students a gift of empathy and love. I'm sure they will be lifelong animal lovers and continue to help animals.

  4. What a beautiful idea! Definitely a great way of teaching kids the power of writing as well as all about shelter animals. Allowing them to see their animal friends get adopted & knowing they had a hand in that is just priceless!

  5. What a remarkable teacher and a fantastic idea. If every teacher did this yearly, it would make an incredible impact.

  6. What a great project, that teaches many skills to the children, not the least being humane and caring. Thumbs up, youโ€™re a great teacher (I โ€˜m a teacher, too, but in France).

  7. This is by far the most beautiful story I've ever seen about dogs with a happy ending. Kudos to that teacher!!! Best teacher ever!!!!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿฆฎ

  8. OMG!! What a fantastic idea…I love you and your class!! You got a100% according to me. Yaaay waaahhhoooo!!! Tytyty!!! Nothing but love tail wags and milk bone kisses from long island's Pittie-ful 3 pack and human treat dispenser ๐Ÿฆœ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’ซ

  9. Angel lady with the beautiful heart, I wish I had such an inspiring teacher as a child. A very noble act and subject to pair the children with these darling shelter animals. Very very well done and for homing almost all of them. Thank you lady Teacher you are amazing! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผโค๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

  10. This is AMAZING!!! I think this should be implemented in all school curriculums. The kids wrote the sweetest things. I am so glad those babies found their forever homes!!!! Kudos to the teacher, you are pretty awesome yourself!!!!

  11. Finally! A fantastic teacher!! The only grooming going on is for the dogs. God bless this teacher, her family and her classroom kids. The kids are so smart and caring. It's a beautiful thing. Tfs.

  12. Thank you for highlighting this amazing teacher!!! This teacher is teaching respect, empathy, and social awareness, grammar and confidence to these kids. This is what I want my kids to be taught. Bravo!!!!

  13. What a great lesson she is teaching those children! They will grow up knowing about shelters and the joy of adopting animals. Wonderful wonderful story!

  14. 23 out of 24 dogs got adopted? I can't imagine how that makes that last dog, and the kid who wrote the essay about him, feel. I hope Yosemite got adopted soon by loving people. An update is needed on this video.

  15. Genius idea- everything about this is supercool – from the kids learning about shelter animals, their empathy in writing/drawing from the dogs'(cat's) perspective, the animals getting adopted, and the kid's celebrating the adoptions (knowing that they helped it happen). I hope this is replicated over and over! Also, I don't know if teachers receive 'grades', but she gets an A++++ in teaching 'persuasive writing'!

  16. Now,' That's how you teach real valued lessons to children, not just any numbers and alphabet only but about right emotions to be a good living being!!!'
    WHAT AN INCREDIBLE TEACHER!
Bless You, your class and all those 23 loveable buddies!๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

  17. What a brilliant and compassionate idea to get shelter animals adopted. I hope a lot of teachers and other child care workers will "adopt" this idea. My two rescue cats always brighten my day.

  18. I've known a few teachers who combined their classroom "work" w/animal shelter volunteerism, but this project is especially important for persuasive writing.* She's infusing such compassion into her classroom, bringing real life lessons that these kids will remember for the rest of their lives.๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ
(*ETA: You got me. Is Yosemite still available?๐Ÿ˜‰)

  19. There's many wonderful things to say here, but they've already been said. So I will say this:

Whoever was assigned to Pebble is an ARTIST. This should be done for all of them, of course, but that child especially needs to be encouraged in art if they enjoy it! They have SERIOUS talent! And honestly, while Pebble's artist had insane talent, ALL of these drawings show talent. It's obvious how much caring about what they're doing allowed these kids to really show their talent here. Many of them included the background of the photos in their drawings simply because they wanted to truly show the dog in the image they were given, and that includes the whole image. Others placed the dogs in new, happy environments. All of them showed considerable skill in paying attention to the actual markings and shapes of the dogs themselves, moreso than if you just asked them to draw a random dog from a picture, because these kids knew their drawings would help these dogs find homes. So, in caring about the art they made, they naturally put a lot of effort and attention to detail in that they may not have even considered they had the talent to do, purely because these skills tend to be presented as "skills" and "talent", and if a kid isn't already OBVIOUSLY talented in their artwork, they won't even try those things because it's a subconscious message they've learned that these details and skills are for people with a TALENT, and since they've never been recognized as having that talent, they won't even try. And not really caring about the art they're making outside of "eh, it's fun I guess" isn't going to truly show the full abilities many kids have. Why put so much effort if it isn't important to them? But give them this assignment, where each kid really CARES about their drawings, and suddenly every single kid in that class is showing immense artistic skill in a diversity of areas.

All humans are capable of great art. While art mediums definitely benefit from someone having the chance to learn the best ways to utilize them, there's no right or wrong, and there's no such thing as "I suck at art". Maybe you throw random paint at a large canvas in splatters, but you have a knack for picking out colors that create a beautiful image, because you simply have that draw towards how colors interact with each other. Maybe you are really good at collage art! And hell, even needing a lesson in collage art to understand how to actually make it doesn't mean you aren't talented – you had the talent, you just needed the information on how to utilize it. And it all comes down to this: what makes you happy. You might be AMAZING at collage art, but fucking hate it. Then it's not for you. Maybe you like oil pastels, or watercolor, or sculpting, or ceramics, or even dance, or maybe visual media. Art has endless forms and all humans are good at art, because art is simply how humans express their emotions into the world. And when you give kids something they care about, and direct that care into an art form? You really see talent there.

Examples of different skills I saw used by these kids in these drawings:

    1. Color. Getting accurate coloring down, using pleasing combinations of color, etc

    2. Shapes, either abstract or accurate. Some had very accurate shaping of the dog, others used a more abstract approach that, in the end product, became the dog in the picture. That's all talent.

    3. Lighting. Kids used lighting in these photos and thats INSANE

    4. FRAMING. All of these dogs were framed in a way to draw the eye, even if the dog wasnt dead center. That's a natural talent being shown!!

    5. Contrast. All of them made sure the dogs were not drowned out by any background work they did. All background work was either light, or used colors and shapes that didn't fight with the colors and shapes of the dogs themselves.

There's so much more. This is such a beautiful example of how much talent every child has, and in so many different ways! Kids just need to right environment and opportunity to let those talents shine. And the most important part is that these talents get recognition. I hope every kid's work was praised here, because it was all genuinely good art. And here's the secret: all art that comes from the soul, that is made to express an emotion, is good art.
