New Spy Operation Can Extinguish Stars

Spread The Viralist

Stellaris Overlord has brought a new spy mission, Extinguish Star. This can be performed once we have managed to acquire the Stellar Devourer’s egg sac. Once we have that we will be able to strike with impunity at rival empires. Spying just got scary.

Lets dive in and find out what is going on!

  1. In order to make Spionage more important they should rework it
To play full spy empire you should be able to other things.
Maybe full or almost total control of your own pops
Maybe at lategame you can influence others factions/ethics

  2. "A natural disaster with extra steps." This killed me. Well played. This is nuts though I'm really glad they snuck this in made it fun to find

  3. Might be an interesting counter, either as an actual strategy or even for RP, to move one's empire capital to a habitat in a lifeless star system, in a similar vein to the Asteroid Blast Door archaeology site. Then, if the star is devoured, any habitats (presumably) remain full of life. This, of course, assumes that they do not change the espionage to target specific star systems.

In some ways it makes more sense to move the seat of government anyways like how capitals located in major cities tend to get choked out by the economic activities in those cities and so move to a relative backwater to expand more easily. Plus, some capitals have moved or are picked for defensive reasons, so when one sees that another empire has a stellar devourer hatchery, one might rightfully fear the destruction of their ancestral home and take steps to preserve it.

An aside, I wonder if a non-solitary star would have each star devoured, or if the event text or number of steps in the operation changes based on the number of stars in the system. It'd be funny having a triple binary system to be used as extra insurance against this, although I suppose it might be like how the star-eaters detonate all the stars in a system simultaneously.

  4. This is a crazy cool op. And we all know this is definitely how it would happen if such a thing were to exist.

  5. I like to play a game with myself where I try to predict what Montu's going to say whenever he says "x that like button". This is one of those instances where my prediction was accurate.

  6. Биолаборатории по выращиванию звёздных паразитов на границе с Объединёнными Нациями Земли, да за такое можно превентивный удар схлопотать

  7. Is there a console command to do this, an AI empire killed it before I got the chance to, I would like to blow up their star just for taking this away from me

  8. So OP.
In MP if you have jump drive, nobody will stop your mission.
Science ship is working on a project? Throw a corvette into system to engage science ship.

  9. Yep, "mistery", certainly has nothing to do with the empire that encountered and defeated star-consuming monster and now has its eggsack in their capital on display for anyone to see))

  10. How to conquer the galaxy :
Step 1: Build a spy network on all empires. Colonize a new planet (or build a habitat) and make it the new capital for good measure.
Step 2: Kill Stellarite Devourer and retrieve its eggs.
Step 3: Infest every single empire (including myself) with the Stellarite Devourers all at once just in time for the crisis.
Step 4: Let the Crisis do the rest.

  11. thats messed up. but it is as messed up as subjugating a hive mind into free empire? and then integrating them? i didnt realize at the time, but once i integrated them, they all started to die. their entire species died a year after integration. because they cannot survive once cut from the hive mind, and integrating them into a free society, cut them off.

i mean, the path to hell is paved with good intentions no? we just wanted to free those poor creatures.

  12. See if you gave us 10 cool options to do like this all of a sudden spy networks are important, it would be cool to see some sort of counterspy mechanic too so you can set your envoys to catch spies or something, because its either impossible to get a solid spy network on someone else, or useless, like why disable a space station when my 100k fleets disable them in the blink of an eye?

  13. I had jstanley try do this to me in the ranked pvp on wsc discord. Thankfully I had a science ship assisting research, and thankfully he alerted me to some incoming threat due to voice chat teasing. Moral of story, always assist research on your cap xD

  14. … and here i just wached King of the Hill – Fire ant Infection Episode with Dale Bug Terminating before finding that on youtube … universe has some weird symmetries 😀

  15. OP big events are nice sure, but what the system needs is an overhaul to make the standard ops more useful. The fun in a overpowered/underpowered dicotomy disapears after the first go.

    Ops to increase crime massively
Ability to direct the empire you ruin relations with
    Fostering civil wars
    Even soft coups through factions

Shit, you just have to read about the CIA for 5 minutes to get all the ideas you need

  16. Is this something you need the overlord dlc for or does it come with the free update? I presume you need leviathans in order to find the Stellar Devourer.

  17. This new spy mission is great, but one is surely not enough. I wish they would add more events like this to the espionage system, for now it's all just "assign and wait"
