"You don't need fishing line to fish" - Seal Rescue
Spread The Viralist

OCN seal rescuer Antoine is on his own, his colleague Naude found a different seal in need and got distracted with the additional rescue. Antoine’s seal is small and he can do the rescue on his own. He carefully removes a loop of thin fishing line from the animal’s neck, it is partially overgrown and causes the animal a lot of pain and Antoine reminds the seal with his usual calming and soothing voice that “you don’t need fishing line to fish”.

  1. It is so often the fishing gear that is the problem! I had to google if there are any biodegrable alternatives to fishing lines and apparently there are. However, they still take 5 yrs to degrade, which is great for the environment in general but doesn't really help the seal whose neck it's tied around. And also I don't know how widely they are used… The suffering that neglectful uncaring people cause is too much. I still have some hope that there is clever people out there that could think of solutions to the ocean plastic, they just need to be allowed, encouraged and funded to do it!

  2. Ok, I have to make the same comment as all the rest of you… I love the way Antoine talks to the puppies 🥰. The way his voice raises a whole octave and the things he says are so funny and genuine, “Oh, you are fast, body guard as well”, as he chases this little one 😅. But then when he sees how terrible the cut is on the neck, his voice lowers for more serious comments and it’s heartbreaking in a whole different way. 💔. Luckily though, the seal is freed from the deadly fishing line and can begin to heal.

  3. Tony you are so adorable when you talk to the seals, but I know you have to be serious. I get it, you need to focus while trying to get the seal to remain calm. All of you do a great job saving these beautiful animals 🙏🦭❤️

  5. Thank you for your team and all they do. These seals are fortunate that you all care enough to help them with our garbage hurting them in our oceans. Grateful fory your team.

  6. All those fishing lines that the seals are caught in, are they old fishing lines? Or are the recent lines that fishermen have just thrown over. Because it’s never ending 🙁

  7. Great and efficient rescue of the pup. Tony and the Team are so adept at these critical rescues, so vital to a young seal's life, removing the nearly invisible fishing line.

  8. I love the way Antoine talks to the seals. I do something similar when talking to dogs that I don't know. Your tone and demeanor can do a lot to calm an animal down.
