The French Revolution: Crash Course World History #29

Spread The Viralist

In which John Green examines the French Revolution, and gets into how and why it differed from the American Revolution. Was it the serial authoritarian regimes? The guillotine? The Reign of Terror? All of this and more contributed to the French Revolution not being quite as revolutionary as it could have been. France endured multiple constitutions, the heads of heads of state literally rolled, and then they ended up with a megalomaniacal little emperor by the name of Napoleon. But how did all of this change the world, and how did it lead to other, more successful revolutions around the world? Watch this video and find out. Spoiler alert: Marie Antoinette never said, “Let them eat cake.” Sorry.

  1. This man lecturing you is a Marxist scum bag. The French Revolution continues to be an unmitigated disaster to this day.

  2. One clarification – thought he said the First Estate was nobility and Second Estate was clergy. This is not correct – I believe the First Estate was Clergy and Second Estate was Nobility. Which is correct?

  3. ha, listen to the video at 0.25 X speed and then hit the forward arrow on your keyboard 2-3 times per second (look at a watch or a timer somewhere), it sounds hilarious, just a bunch of random sounds. Try it!

  4. i feel like you should mention more timelines, like when all these things happened more often, you said like in august they did _ which meant
i had to go back and find out the initial time and follow it until i got to a specific point. Like when exactly did Prussia and The holy roman empire
decide to invade and when did France fight back?? Etc. thank you.
