Existentialism: Crash Course Philosophy #16

Spread The Viralist

Now that we’ve left behind the philosophy of religion, it’s time to start exploring what other ways might exist to find meaning in the world. Today we explore essentialism and its response: existentialism. We’ll also learn about Jean-Paul Sartre and his ideas about how to find meaning in a meaningless world.

  1. So I'm paying for youtube premium and I have listen to your embedded commercial for Squarespace? Not cool dude! But in a universe devoid of meaning where a craven tendency toward monetization is perfectly acceptable then I guess it's okay….

  2. This video is so enlightening ivendi realize so many holes and overlaping ideas and contradicting Ideas in my way of thinking… I just.. feel like I have lived my lifrle like I'm not really "there"(truly) and how my actions have consequences.
I wish I was really in control
    I

    I will work on that!

    NEVER TO BE CONTINUED

UNless I have the same phone in 3 years

  3. You left out Dostoevsky, Frankl, and Solzhenitsyn. they were outstanding and added a lot of context to the existential worldview

  4. It's my crisis and I'll cry if I want to
Die if I want to, eat pie if I want to
You would cry too if an existential crisis happened to you

  5. Thank you for the video! This was very insightful, interesting, and thought provoking. Yep it's all about the journey, not the destination as my professor always says to me!

  6. Our existence on this earth is makeshift. Our reality was created to be created, yet it was tampered with and changed by an entity. We have freewill but live with the consequences of our actions. Our purpose is what we make it but everything that happened will happen and already happened. Everything you do is already known by the Almighty because you will be who you are meant to be. It's all linear. If you feel like you can break your destiny then that is apart of your destiny. Certain people are given missions for lack of a better term on this earth as well. Existentialism has a few flaws in it's theory and one of them is the theory that the earth is meant to be forever. Everything here is temporary. Make the best of it.
