4. as someone who has 2 rescue dogs, people need to have knowledge about their social state, mine after years are still nervous, keep their distance from people and get easily startled, they're better than they were when we got them yet the trauma they have been through is sadly still effecting them

5. My parents adopted a dog that spent her first 3 years of life in a cage, making puppies. It's hard hard work rehabilitating a dog like that, both physically and mentally, but in the long term, it is so worth it. I hope those dogs get loving and supporting new homes

10. We adopted our girl. She has severe social issues. She's terrified of other dogs (and used to be terrified of men), it's taken us a year of hard constant work to get her to where she is now, and she still can't be around other dogs. She has to wear a muzzle. People who don't understand our situation will give her at best mean looks and, at worst, yell at us for having an "out of control" dog while we're just trying to walk her and train her. People are cruel too impatient to bother trying to understand or be compassionate. Adopting a dog, especially one like our girl who has social anxiety, is hard work, but also very rewarding. If you think you're up to it, I would recommend try fostering first. Test the waters, don't just dive in without a life jacket.

I adopted a shelter dog who had a lot of early trauma, it took a lot of love patience and hard work but now she’s a loving, happy member of our family. They’ll make so many families happy!
