To those of you who do not understand iron deficiency-Paco is anemic. I have issues absorbing iron through my gut and have bleeding issue as well. when your body suddenly dips in iron or blood it causes 1) muscle weakness; 2) neuropathy or nerve pain; 3) confusion and brain fog-hence why he looks more and less alert; 4) depression and anxiety; 5) restless leg syndrome; 6) swelling and inflammation; 7)insomnia; 8) irregular heart beat; 9) and if bad enough permanent damage to the heart resulting in eventual cardiac failure.
So he is being fed raw beef to get his iron up. The blood transfusion saved his body energy in taking iron and converting it into hemoglobin but Paco would benefit from an iron infusion. Diluted with saline solution ferraheme is easily stored in the blood as ferritin (a protein that stores iron in your body) and your transferrin (that converts ferritin to usable iron) to produce hemoglobin.
To give you an idea: my body can lose 7 unit of blood in three days, I am given 1000mg of ferraheme over a week, then my body will make 7 units of hemoglobin in 2 weeks because my body adapts increasing transferrin to convert ferritin to usable iron for hemoglobin production. Instead of producing all new blood in three months I go through my entire body's worth of blood in 2 months but every approximate three months your body produces all new blood cells. Mine re immature and made 'from scratch' that is why when you have chronic anemia you never really "feel great" because your blood cells are immature. So once they get his bleeding under control he will be fine. He will need a high iron diet for MANY MANY months until his iron stabilizes long term.

Maybe someone visiting the shelter who loves to cut NAILS, can spend a day or so to do so ! 🥰Would'nt that be awesome ? During siesta or instead of partying…standing in line to get the nails done so they can walk elegantly. I find it funny, but for instance older dogs have more difficulty walking if nails are not cut regularly. So these little tasks are crucial too and precise and it makes them happy afterwards. I can imagine walking on these white stones, keeps their nails somehow longer than running on the street, but I'm no specialist.

Paco is weak, for serious and obvious reasons. The wind makes even young dogs not mooving. The same with heat : dilatation of the veins make mussles lazy. But Paco wants to offer us a nice gesture. Beautiful you share this with us Takis. ❤️

So windy to cool off August weather. And it is good fence off Trees to protect esp young trees. Good diet makes dogs healthy and good for their eyes.
Yes, I admire your perseverance which is born from the patience of caring for the animals that are suffering. And from you and from very good veterinary care these animals have hope. They obviously want to live. Please someday show us the vets that medically treat these animals. They( and you Takis) are doing God’s labor of love. May God bless you and your wonderful facility.
If I didn’t live all the way in the United States, Beauty or that large black and white Husky mix laying on top of the dog house would be in my home. Thank you Takis and staff for all your hard work.
Maybe you should put a small rug in there like a 5×7 so he can stand on because the floor is too slippery give him a chance to walk on that and see what would happen but you're doing a really good job

And Paco, who does look so much better. Good for him that he has the will to stand and go on, he will let Taki know if it is time to let him go. Meanwhile Taki is right, all the negative comments aren't helping.
Remember how some turned against Taki because he wouldn't put old Black (on wheels) down?? Yes Black who is on the t-shirts! If Taki had listened to them then Black would not have had that 1 last year to enjoy love, care, friends to walk(roll!) with. He would have died miserable, not knowing love or peace or safety. That 1 year was beautiful for Black, he finally experienced all the good things he should have always had. When Black decided it was his time, he left this world LOVED. And forever remembered. Thank god Taki didn't listen. Taki will follow Paco's lead now. Let Paco decide, it's not up to us who watch from afar. Eat & rest Paco, we'll see you tomorrow sweetheart!

I am so excited to see Paco doing so well. Takis God bless you.I know exactly how you feel. I do have a 17 year old dog and at one point he was in the same situation as Paco. The only difference he was not bleeding. He could not stand up, didn''t want to eat or drink,but I took care of her with love,thinking that she might be gone at any moment. She is still with me, she is walking,she is eating and drinking by herself. So I understand Takis. You never give up. Who are we to decide when a dog should die? I have rescued over 10 dogs and only had to put one to sleep, because there was no choice. She would have suffocated and that would have been a horrible way to die. Thank you Takis for having so much love for your dogs. May God bless you with great health and a long life. Dogs need you.And we need you as an example of how to treat and take care of dogs,cats and any other pet we have.

Oh Takis I'm so glad you have decided to ignore those negative messages and the people that send them to you..I'd like to see them do what you do for one week and see how they cope !!.. glad Max is in the house..he is closer to you now and you can keep a closer eye on him..poor Suzi..but she has a happy tail so she must feel better..SOOO pleased with Paco's progress..and he stood up on his own too..losing all that blood. Even though he had a transfusion and not eating whilst he was poorly added to that he therefore has been inactive he is naturally going to feel weak on his legs..but he is eating and wants to get up and that is half the battle with any animal..Paco wants to live and there is no reason to put him to sleep..
