How do you change the R1 L1 abilities? How do you switch between them? What decides which is R1 and L1?

I just downloaded the game and played on my PS4, gotta say it a dope fucking game, as long as they fix the matchmaking time, I think it's a great game, taking a break to write this review but I'm about to go right back in and brawl.
