Tag Heuer is one of the brands that could have a CHANCE at jumping up to the level of Rolex (talking in terms of sales). They have some brilliant watch designs, a crack marketing team, and simply, the funds to blow up their market to the watch world at large. So what’s their plan? Is it to go crazy and develop amazing watches we’ve never seen or greatly miss? Or is it to sit back and let the masses snag watches for $4k while salespeople say “It’s basically a Rolex”.

  1. I hope to own a Monaco someday, so hopefully Heuer just stays on the path they're on so their prices/availability don't explode 😂😂

  2. Tag defined the 90s with its Link bracelet but started to lose their way when they gutted the golden goose with enumerable iterations of the link and later the V2 of that same watch. Many of their other offerings were uninspired and bland. I would love to see Heuer make a stronger and renewed commitment to the racing culture and reimagine the Link. They should reimage the Link the way VC fixed the Overseas. Break it down, and make it over. Stop making Aqua racers for women with diamonds, pink dials, and mother of pearl faces. Make the AR in 40 and 36mm, and fix the width of the bezel for the smaller size; it's too wide.
Drop bi-color metal until they make something that looks good in bi-color. Kill the logo with the arrows on the new formula 1; it's corny.

  3. I own 2 Tag Heuers, I feel these watches look much better in the metal than in pictures. I like that they have a modern and sporty vibe to their designs. And if you want classic timeless designs, you’ve got the carrera and Monaco.

  4. Not shocking. LVMH is the BEST when it comes to luxury marketing. They have pulled off making Hublot more successful than VC, ALS, and JLC.

  5. First let me state I pre-date TAG and grew up admiring Heuer. I understand TAG needed a reputable brand to destroy in their pursuit of cash cow mall watches but it still kills me to this day they chose Heuer to shit on.

You are absolutely correct they could have taken Heuer to the next level and crushed it by expanding on an already successful enthusiast approach. That, however, would have involved pride and an actual appreciation of fine watchmaking they clearly did not have. TAG ruined the Heuer name so bad that I don’t even want legitimate vintage Heuers anymore. TAG are shameless charlatons undeserving of any success.

  6. The Carrera offshoots are killing their heritage. Whenever brands do this it tarnishes legacy so bad, relegating everyone to just recall “the good old days”.

  7. Tag Heuer has so much potential as a brand. Recently bought an Aquaracer after 15+ years of wanting a Tag. When I was growing up, that was the watch to have!!! I think they’re on the rise with this year’s releases. Fingers crossed they keep up the momentum

  8. Before I had a more in-depth knowledge of watches a Tag is what I aspire to one day own mostly yes as a status symbol, years later my wife would gift me a formula 1 the first watch in my collection and though I now own much quote unquote higher grade watches I will always have an affinity for my Tag, that I am actually now wearing as a I write this

  9. The first time I saw a Heuer Autavia chronograph was in 1970 when my dad took me to my first F1 GP. It has been my grail watch since and, two years ago for my 60th birthday, my wife bought me the Jack Heuer 85th anniversary Autavia on the gorgeous beads of rice bracelet. I could not be more pleased.

  10. So you make the point for TAG and I fully agree here, but do you think that'll last forever? There public presence is super weak, the ads with Gosling, Ronaldo or (god forbid) Di Caprio are all just dumpster fires even by public perception. That can't work forever, can it?

  11. There’s lots of reasons that explain Tags success. I think they make beautiful watches that are well priced for the consumer they target (let me explain). Tag doesn’t necessarily target the watch nerd community, but rather an at large consumer base: someone who’s buying their first luxury watch, someone who wants a brand that has a massive amount of brand recognition: almost everyone and their mom knows that Tag Heuer is a luxury watch brand. For that person Tag is great because you’re spending well under 10k for a watch that everyone will know is a luxury watch brand (the same cannot be said about many higher end brands such as JLC, IWC and even Breitling)
