Hello, I am Ermioni, and together with Katerina and Fotini, I founded the Diasozo Animal Rescue in Karditsa, Greece. We are rescuing animals that are found abandoned, abused, mistreated and starving, and we are trying to offer them a better life. We are volunteers, and our only resources are donations. I’m very sad , that you have that mentally about Greece ,saying it’s behind , and mentioning Athens , as the only city with an open mind ……………. Athens is not the only city that has ungraded , and open minded views about animals and in general . You can’t generalise . Let me inform you about kalamata , a very friendly animal city…………. Of course there is a problem with the strays , but that’s a global matter . You must choose your words carefully instead of generalising .

Where I live, if a dog was chained up outside 24/7, the cops would be called. The dog would be taken away & the owner charged w Animal Cruelty, neglect, abuse.

You gals are telling the truth about Greek mentality. They think dogs don't feel anything. It is very disturbing to see this when I visit. It has not changed much from the 1970 s . Soo I don't visit anymore. Your shelters are a bandaid to a huge problem , but because of you there is hope.❤️

So sad that the situation in Greece and eastern Europe is not so advanced in animal welfare. We have our own problems here in the US.
I would like to see the supporters of Takis and DAR get together to fund an educational program for the schools in Greece. I would like to get information about how the school system is administered in Greece.
Are there any non-governmental organizations either from Greece or other countries who put together spay and neuter campaigns sometimes? What I dont understand is that you say it's the mentality of the people but why so cruel?. Ok the dog/horse/cat is low on peoples priorities but even so it should be fed watered exercised like any animal. To keep a dog on short chain only is torture and some people seem to have no empathy for other life but themselves they dont even question it or think its wrong. Thank God that not everyone is the same and there are good people as well who care like yourselves.
