Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos, President of the Republic of the Philippines, addresses the general debate of the 77th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 20-26 September 2022).

The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.

The UN has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.

But one thing has stayed the same: it remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.

  1. Marcos is riding a train that leads to nowhere. Unless the Filipino toxic culture changes to reflect the issues he raises on this trip to the UN, his vision will fade like smoke in the once dreaded Smokey Mountain of Tondo. Many have tried before him, including his old man, but all have failed. Why? Because of the damaged culture of the Filipinos.

But, there is hope and it lies with the OFWs. Like him who spend most of their lives abroad, the OFWs have seen and experienced different cultures all over the world. They will be the ones to transform and repair the damaged culture of the Filipinos. If he can harness this force, the future is indeed bright!

The irony of it all is that his father enacted aptly on May 1, 1974, a Labor Code to promote overseas contract work first known as "Overseas Contract Worker". Many have regarded this as a milestone as it was the first time that the government turned the spotlight on labor.

"And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son."

  2. As a ret.mentor, this is the 3rd time I'm impressed by PBBM speech! The 1st time was in his inaugural speech, the 2nd was in his 1st Sona that I repeatedly listened with admiration. Why?His humility & tone of voice sound so honest & sincere in his intentions to have a better Philippines!May the light of the Holy Spirit continue to shine upon you Mr PBBM!

  3. Is everyone ignoring the fact that the UN is the blame of the whole situation globally?
The reason why the UN has been created the first place was to maintain and exert multilateral rules. To promote dialog instead of war.
They failed miserably with Palestina, Iraq, Afghanistan, Cuba, Somalia, Libya, Syria, Ukrain present day and 2014.

The standard of the UN is the standard of no more than, let's say, 20 western nations.

Various continents equals various traditions and customs. There are many roads leading to Rome, meaning western democracy isn't omnipotent. Respect and understand other people's opinions /thoughts to work towards a better future for the next generations.

Alpha mentality is still ruling over trade mentality.
To give you an example clear as water.
Russia, India and China have been focusing on trade the past few decades with good results, compared to the disruptive behavior of the west.
It's blatant but think about it.

  4. Our president made all Filipinos proud, he had realistic goals, his speech is organized, well defended, base or reality, time relevant and source of ideas to listeners.
