For those wondering what happened to global warming:

While counterintuitive, this is exactly what's expected to happen due to global warming.

Just be careful expanding the nether the exact same amount of blocks. If you place a portal it might accidentally send you outside your border since 1 block in the nether is 8 blocks in the overworld. So if you expand it 6 blocks for episode 6, you can travel 48 blocks away from your border in the overworld.
