The [person] who found Eve lying on the ground, waited and tried to reunite Eve and her biological mom. Eve’s mom was nowhere to be found. We think she might’ve been taken by a predator or hit by a car. The founder had also mentioned that there was a stray cat who had been eyeing Eve and she was concerned for Eve’s safety. That’s when we got the call to pick Eve up, she was only a month old and still needed to be bottle fed. I called a wildlife rehabilitation center, after we brought Eve home. They told me she’d be euthanized due to not having enough volunteers. So I took Eve under my wing to rehabilitate her.
When she was 12 weeks old, I started introducing her to the outdoors to get her acclimated, to going back into the wild. I would bring her outside every day in a bonding pouch. The minute she saw herself outside, she’d be like, boop, right back in. I ultimately didn’t want to be selfish by keeping her. So I allowed her to make her own decision. She chose her life here at home with me.
Life with a squirrel is a full-time job in itself. She’s cage-free 24/7 in her magical squirrel Queendom. Most people always ask, where does she go to the bathroom? She’s potty trained. Squirrels require a very strict diet. They’re also very high maintenance. They are not meant to be pets by any means. Only under certain circumstances. She’s my stage-five clinger. She loves to show me her affection through her hand hugs
she gives me. Although I rescued her, she also rescued me and I can’t imagine life without her. We have truly created a once in a lifetime bond and I am forever grateful, she chose me as her mama.
