My son does that with cling film and celotape and it annoys me so much. You lose so much of it, but worse still is the person that needs it next has to sort out the mess. Aaaaaah. Try wrapping the tree with moss and raffia. We do that if deer get into our trees. Mostly, we put stakes in and wrap mesh around so they cant get to it and the tree heals, but only if the damage isnt too great. Oaks are good at healing though.
Saw the mini chainsaw with Jami when you used to take the mik out of her for getting one and watched you use them all the time now. I got one for my mum this Christmas from seeing you and Jami using them as mum is a keen gardener and thought this would be better that searchers and she says it's the best present ever x

Lester, maybe try spraying your tree bark area with pruning spray. Its black and should be carried by your local hardwares or greenhouses. I've used it on trees that had bark stripped off them by wild animals here. Or maybe contact a local arborist there. I imagine wrapping the tree with the duct tape will stop the animals from nibbling on it more but I'm not 100% sure it will keep bugs out of it. I know some arborists propagate trees by stripping bark off or even whole branches and tightly wrapping the damaged area with a bag filled with moss (I presume the moss helps keep the wounded area damp). Aw, if the bark has been "ringed" taken off all around the trunk its unlikely to survive. A trees life is in the thin layer under the bark where all nutrients and water etc are brought up from the roots 🙁

There is a black paint you can paint where the bark is missing and it will act as a band aid. It is specifically for that purpose. The paint will seal it Lester. Then you can get some tin and wrap it around the area exposed to the babies lol. AND Just go buy another roll or two of duct tape Lester. I can't believe you let that little issue upset you. Come on man! You just hurting yourself inside and everyone around you when you get all eat up over the simple things in life. My husband is facing a reoccurrence of Prostate cancer just two years after treatment. It was a very aggressive type. He had a lousy dr that operated on him cutting him from his belly button to pelvic area. TOTALLY unnecessary to butcher someone like that I found out later. On top of that he did not cut all out that he told us he did. ANYWAY I have to drive him all the way to Birmingham Al, for a second opinion for his heart. He may also need aortic valve replacement. I just cannot depend on the doctors here in Pensacola. Many other health issues that I will not address here as I just wanted to put things in perspective for you. I wish duct tape was all that was on my mind, I really do because I am close, very close, to being over loaded. You just keep doin what ya doin until all of a sudden you have a melt down and only then realize you just have too much on your plate with no one to help you. Hubby is a young 81 and I am 72…I THINK!!!! LMBO.

Unfortunately you will loose your tree. Too many of the capillaries have been removed. There is no way water will be able to travel up the tree.
Or maybe put long boards around it and let it heal! It will keep the donkeys from getting at it!
Put duct tape around to save your tree
Use chicken wire to wrap around the tree or get a few rolls of the cloth medical tape. I know it's gonna take a few rolls but it's cloth can absorb rain and the adhesive will not stay on the tree but allows air to the tree. I use it on my crabapple trees when the deer figure a way to get around my chicken wire fence. Have used it for years and my crabapple trees survive.
What kind of oil do you use for to lubricate the chain?

I would think that duct tape or the tree salves could be eaten off by the donkeys since they are so curious. What about a section of stove pipe/sheet metal could be placed around it with adjustable straps? By using adjustable straps you could prevent tree binding.
