Tigers vs Twins 1982. There is a clip of that on YouTube. Lots of punches thrown in that one.
I remember 1986 Indians manager Pat Corrales trying to karate kick Dave Stewart of the A's and getting decked before the benches emptied
As far as brawls go, 10 cent beer night in Cleveland will go down in the annals as the most craziest
The light at the end of the tunnel was the Ryan Express!
how bout the brawl that the braves center fielder Otis Nixon had vs the Phillies"s Roger McDowell. When the " Super Kick" kick to Roger was referred to as " Otis is channeling his inner Bruce Lee"……….Now that fight was wild
What was Ventura thinking, anyway?
How about the Mariners vs. Angels in late June 2022, to me that was an epic brawl that turned the season around for the Mariners, shortly thereafter they went on a 14 game winning streak and really solidified there first playoff spot in 21 years 🎉
Bud Harrelson vs Pete Rose in the '73 NLCS is another good one.
Pedro Guerrero throwing his bat at and charging David Cone after getting hit with a curve ball.5/22/1988.
I’m old enough to remember the Marichal v Roseboro fight. That one was actually frightening because Marichal was totally out of control with that bat. And, yes, I do recall when Willie Mays took care of Roseboro and de escalated the whole situation.
As for entertainment, though, Ryan v Ventura will go down in history. You could see Ventura slowing down with an “Oh shit, what am I doing look?” On his face as he closes in. And Ryan, just standing there waiting for him.
Pudge Rodriguez wasn't breaking the fight between Ryan and Ventura… he's clearly got his arms around Ventura as Ryan continues to land head blows! From my recollection as a young kid, I saw the (then) Yankees catcher/1st baseman big John Ellis go crazy and literally knock out two Cleveland Indian players during a team brawl (70 or 71)… and two Mets fights come to mind… again when I was just a kid in the late 60s… The Mets and Astros in 1968 got into a team brawl when the Astros' Doug Rader slid hard into 3rd base with his elbow hitting Mets' Kevin Collins, knocking him out. The Mets' Don Cardwell retaliated by punching Rader in the face and it was on from there. I also saw a fight between the Mets Cleon Jones and Expos' catcher Ron Brand develop when Jones was thrown out at the plate and Brand's leg seemed to kick Jones' head while as Brand was leaving to go to the dugout after this third out. Jones took exemption to that and they both started swinging wildly, creating another team brawl. This particular fight was in 1969.
As a lifelong braves fan,I remember that San Diego brawl.
Ray Knight vs Eric Davis '86 and Dodgers vs Padres had a huge 9 minute brawl in 2013
Great list! Surprised the Will Clark vs. Jose Aquendo & Ozzie Smith ruckus at second base didn't make the cut. That was a great brawl, including Candy Maldonado flying into the scrum pile like a superhero.
I like to throw in that crazy game between the Cardinals and Cubs way back in 1974
Ryan was like, "You don't come chargin' my mound, son."
I find it hilarious that cintron started the fight then hid behind 2 people when Ramon charged lmfao
Remember in 1986 when a Yankees fan stole Jim Rice's hat after he collided with Spike Owen in foul territory in Yankee Stadium? He hopped into the stands and ran up 20 rows to rough up the fan and get his hat back, and half the Red Sox team ran up into the stands behind him. Not exactly a brawl, but it was hilarious!
I didn't know much, if anything, about Odor. I became a massive fan after watching him fold Batista's face in half, though. That was a punch.
How Mets vs reds in 1973 playoffs
Ever since I was a tiny tot and was enchanted by The Ryan Express at a baseball game and later got a chance to meet him, then cried when he was traded from the Mets even though I barely understood baseball, LNR has always been my favorite.
And out of all your Top 10, he showed the most class out of all the brawlers.
You just don't mess with old-schoolers like Nolan, Drysdale and Bob Gibson.
In fact, it reminds me of a story I once heard about Gibby
Even though it may be aprocryphal, it definitely sounds like him
Bob Gibson hit a batter in the head, knocked him unconscious and sent him to the hospital
Concerned, Gibson went to visit him in the hospital later that day
Gibson: I'm really sorry I hit you in the head
Batter: It's OK, I'm glad you came to check on me. But it was an accident
Gibson: I meant to hit you on the neck…
You missed the best punch thrown during the O’s / Yankees brawl. When Strawberry went in the O’s dugout he was punched directly in the mouth by a O’s reliever and knocked squarely on his ass. Can’t remember the relievers name, someone help me out here
so funny!!
I would have swapped out the A’s and Astros one for the Reds and Pirates Amir Garrett fight
1988 – Will Clark slides hard into 2nd base and let the games begin. Ozzie Smith jumps on him and takes some cheap shots from behind. Of course the benches cleared on this one. I never forgave Ozzie and would boo him loudly any time I was at a Giants/Cards game. After all, Will Clark was my main idol and 'could do no wrong'.
I’m probably biased but I feel the Varitek VS A-Rod should’ve been higher
Awesome video and commentary! I'm a Yankee fan but I actually commend Pedro. I think he let him down pretty easily considering Zim charged him. And he didn't hit the old man. Great times in that rivalry!
I have two more fights that you should look into:
1. Amir Garrett (Reds) vs. the entire Pirates dugout (7/31/2019)
2. Nyjer Morgan (Nationals) vs. Chris Volstad (Marlins) (9/1/2010)
They are great brawls to watch. Go ahead and check 'em out when you get the chance.
The Cardinals and Reds fight 8/10/2010 is an underrated one started by a war of words
I always remember the Varitek v A-Rod thing to be the moment I went from "hating" Varitek because he was a Red Sox player to actually having zero respect for him. Starting a fight with a guy, while wearing your catching gear, is a punk move. And A-Rod was in the right. I mean, I am not a fan of ARod, but he got hit by a pitch and was pissed, Varitek made it a thing with his punk move. And you know that if not for Varitek, nothing happens there because A-Rod isn't that dude.
Varitek is a pussy you don't start a fight while still wearing your catchers mask
Seems like the Yankees are in a lot of these brawls?
I never heard of the Juan Marichal brawl before. Honestly, hitting another human being with a baseball bat in the head should be considered attempted murder, especially given that these are professional athletes with extra strength. I actually don't know if Marichal should even have been elected to the hall for that incident, but if Cap Anson and some of the other not-so-well reputable members are in, I understand overlooking it. Still, even hitting someone in the chest or stomach with a bat could result in a life-altering injury. Up at Cooperstown, Marichal always has seemed like such a light-hearted guy and happy.
Thank god for Willie Mays, it might have actually been a murder. One more reason he's objectively the GOAT.
I was talking to a buddy the other day and he’s convinced that the picture of Nolan Ryan at 17:39 is from him getting hit by a line drive by Bo Jackson.
Good video. Think maybe Reds-Cardinals from 2010 deserves a shoutout
Daryl Strawberry's face was too numb to feel any punches landing.
There was a game where a reporter ask Ty Cobb about Ruth. Cobb said any idiot could hit a home run. Cobb went out that game and hit 2 home runs and a triple. Cobb could hit home runs but preferred to play his game. Hit for contact, doubles, triples, stolen bases. 4189 hits don't lie.
Pitchers really should wear skirts.
I think Ted Williams once said that
And I believe it's true that they should
Pretty one-sided fight at #1. 😄
Nothing is going to beat that giants dodgers fight where Juan Marichal hit dodgers catcher Johnny Rosebero in the head with the bat
Orioles Mariners in 1993 was quite a brawl too. Nasty Boy Norm Charlton, Lou Pinella ejected and kicking dirt.
When Ventura played with the Mets the media was told by the front office not to ask any questions about that brawl with Ryan.
If anyone ever needed an emergency boost of testosterone you could simply scrape it off of Nolan Ryan shoe. I believe he was his errors version of Ted Williams and there's no way you want to mess with either of them. Robin Ventura what an idiot LOL
16:40 — As Uncle Ted from Bobby's World would say, time for noogies!! 😀
Cubs vs white sox; AJ Pierzynski vs Michael Barrett
If it didn't happen in the NPB Rod Allen chasing Kazuhiko Daimon across the field after being thrown at definitely should've been on here
Pierzynski and Barrett fight between White Sox and Cubs was pretty memorable.
You get beanball wars because of the abomination known as the designated hitter. GET RID OF IT!!!
Dope video 👍🏾
Loves me a good baseball brawl.
I think in 1998 or 1999, there was a Red Sox – Indians brawl where Darren Lewis landed a jumping kick on Jaret Wright, and later Rheal Cormier threw Jim Thome to the ground. I might be misremembering and embellishing the details though.
