4. I'm 18:00 minutes in and I'm guessing the twist is these people never left.. she sacrificed them to "the universe" and ended up in prison and eventually an insane asylum

7. Superstitious people are among the stupidest people on earth, and they’re also extra dangerous because their stupid beliefs cause them in their minds to be able to justify doing heinous, hideous, evil things.

8. The problem I have with the telling of this story is that in order to make the “gotcha” ending work, the setup story has to knowingly be false. That is, we are told that Leonarda was earnestly trying to make the world a better place and give it “something beautiful,” but the same narrator telling us this knows that he’s going to give lie to that claim by the end. For me, it doesn’t work.

   Also, there are aspects that are clearly embellished: For example, how does anyone know that she had a look of disgust on her face when she dumped the boiled body parts? She may well have. But no one was there. What, did she tell the detective, “I had a look of disgust on my face when I dumped the boiled body parts”?

   And what happened when the detective didn’t believe her story? Somehow we jump from that to the fact that she got one of those laughably lenient European prison sentences when she should have been burned at the fucking stake for being so evil through and through.

Buuut the minute the police showed up I'm like "maayyyyne Leonarda killed these women to make a spell to protect her son" and the minute she broke out the pot I'm like "yooo she's about to make soap and cakes outta these broads!!!"

38. I'm at 19.27 into this story and my prediction is that the friend and old women wasnt helped by her but killed by her and turned into soap to wash her son do to something she read in one of her accult books. Some protective spell… thats my guess.
