The shallow quake struck at 6:44 pm (1044 GMT), near Monkayo municipality in Davao de Oro province on Mindanao island in natural disasters.
the quake was strong in the beginning but gradually weakened and stopped after 40 seconds.

In Tagum city, in Davao del Norte province, about 40 kilometres south west of the epicentre, residents also fled their homes and power was knocked out by the force of the quake. Quakes are a daily occurrence in the Philippines in natural disasters, which sits along the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, an arc of intense seismic as well as volcanic activity that stretches from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin in natural disasters.
Most are too weak to be felt by humans, but strong and destructive ones come at random with no technology available to predict when and where it will happen in natural disasters.
The last major quake was in October in the northern Philippines.
The 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit the mountain town of Dolores in Abra province, injuring several people, damaging buildings and cutting power to most of the region.
On the morning of October 15, 2013 a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the island of Bohol. Some 222 people died, and 976 went missing. The earthquake also felled national heritage, including ten centuries-old churches in Bohol and Cebu in natural disasters. The Church of San Pedro Apostol in Loboc, Bohol, built by the Jesuits in 1602, was reduced to powder and rubble and was deemed impossible to restore.
Apart from the damaged national cultural treasures, the earthquake also flattened thousands of houses. Some 14,500 houses and structures were destroyed, while another 73,000 were damaged. The earthquake cost Bohol and Cebu an estimated 4 billion pesos’ worth of damages. It also displaced more than 348,000 people.
