Damn
There was a dam failure in Sweden in 1796 caused by an attempt to divert a river around some dangerous rapids and a waterfall.
It wasn't really a dam failure, but a violent empying of a medium sized natural lake.
The digging of the canal in combination with an unusually high spring flood caused a natural ridge to collapse and the whole lake of 300 million kubic meters of water, emptied out in four hours.
Estimation is that the water flowed out of the lake at a rate of 35000 kubic meters every second, for four hours, causing catastrophic damage to the land as well as an earthquake.
The lake was gone and the disaster created a whole new stretch of the river and several new islands. It created a new waterfall upstream and it completely dried up the 36 foot waterfall that they wanted to dig the canal around.
A lot of mills and bridges as well as fields and pastures downstream were destroyed, but as the ridge burst at night, no human was killed.
The new stretch of river allowed for the floating of timber, so in a way they did accomplish what they wanted. The farmers and Millers downstream who had their property destroyed weren't so happy though The disaster sparked a legal dispute that lasted all the way until 1975.
The one that Ive overheard spoken of..
In all walks of life..
But in many different situations..
Is the "Goddam"..you didn't mention it.
BAD…. VERY BAD
Don't hope like this Dams Collaps to Alexamdre The Great Wall in Azzerbsyzan and Armenian or Georgia Arounds …. . Why ? . God of Alexamdre The Great Decided if Wall of Him would like this Dams that " Ends of All would be on Time . The Doomsday … you know . Thank you .
Normal damn failures: Poor material, seismic activities
Italian damn failure: poor material, designed changed during construction, not waiting for the cement to dry ^^, failing 14 days after finishing
What a piece of shit^^
4:55 – 5:18
😱
How about Diamir Bhasha dam in north Pakistan? Which is just under construction, will it hold???
God dam, thats a lot of shitty dams
And thought baby boomers where the one that built America? What Crock of Bullshit.
(2022-'23-'24)
🇺🇸🦅😎⚓🍺
Zumadian Dam collapse, some of the video was taped in AMERICA NOT Ciina! Even the US flag could be seen whilst you been trying to lead your audience this was CHINA! 14:37.
New technologies will really help our Dam Engineers to build more stronger and safer Dams….
As soonas you throw "climate change" in as a cause of dam failure you lower your credibility to zero.
DAMN‼️
This guy fucking voices simple history, keep it up buddy
14:33 The American flag standing in front of the house kind of gives away that this video clip is NOT from the Chinese flood the narrator is discussing at this time.
Seven months in the calaboose for murdering several people?! I wonder whose back pockets were heavily lined?
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?…"
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
I love this guys voice! He’s a natural
The Vajont dam was a jewel of engineering. It opens the doors for Italians to build the best and the biggest dams around the world, during the sixties and the seventies. A perfect dam in the worst place possible. If the not perfect knowledge of the geology could be understandable in those years, the emergency managing was so incredibly stupid…
Why are government bodies, millionaires and billionaires so stupid, lazy and greedy? It's not just this video, but many other ones where they are involved people usually end up dying because of them. It's been happening since the dawn of man and I don't see it stopping any time soon.
Hear it is not mentioned the tragedy when Machhu dam on Machhu river in Gujarat, India collapsed in about 1978 or so, when Water lavel flown more then 18 feet high in all over nearby city Morbi which couse about 25000 (twenty five thousands) lives. Please refer the history of this great tragedy.
I'm gunna be a dam when I grow up
When talking about a Chinese food they were showing areas of the US. I don't think Chinese folk will be flying a flag from the USA.
Gee…who knew corporate greed and government screw ups could cause so much harm?
the last dam did not fail because it was filled up too much or because it held too much water but because they released too much water from it at once at a wrong time. thus the landslide into it. there is a whole documentary about it.
What a dam shame
Is nobody going to talk about how the narrator of this, is the guy who narrates simple history?
Dam
The dutch land is almost all below sea level and they never have problem we need dutch inspectors
Brazil sued a and arested people.in charge Brazil is stepping it up in thease days
Dam ist just a timebomb
Is this Charlie Sheen narrating?
"The injection of pressurized liquids into a nearby oil well"? Lol.
Better known as "fracing".
Environmentalists, on your marks, get set, GO!
LOL
Johnstown Dam collapsed in 1889 not 1989.
This video shows how selfish major companies and/or governments are
Fantastic video, although I expected at least a mention for the use of an video of mine regarding the Gleno Dam
cubic feet?
this would be fixed in jeus name
I think you blokes who make the dams is go watch that animal beaver dam. Man it takes machinery to move tham away. They’ll stay up longer. 🤭
The Jamestown Flood happen in 1889, not 1989.
"The builders of the Vaiont dam likely focused more on aesthetics than reality…"
You can't accuse Italians of not prioritizing style……ever…..on anything.
Californians still revere Mulholland who did so many dams and water projects, many are still somewhat standing but he was just a reformeded drunk.
At 14:30ish for some reason the putz is talking about Chinese flooding using footage of American floods!
DAM!!
