Istanbul, a metropolis of 15 million people, and several other Turkish provinces have been hit by a powerful storm with gusty winds , banning motorcycles and electric scooters from the roads and suspending classes in various locations due to safety concerns.
Fourteen people have died and several more are missing after flooding engulfed the streets of two cities in southeastern Turkey that were devastated by an earthquake last month.
Among the victims were earthquake survivors who lived in container houses after the earthquake.
Cars rolled down the streets of Sanlıurfa under the flow of flood water, killing 12 people.
Torrential rains lashed several parts of Turkey, with the capital city of Istanbul the worst hit as its world-famous Grand Bazaar was filled with floodwaters. After heavy rain warnings were issued for 17 provinces, including Istanbul, the capital city received the expected rain.
While avenues and streets were flooded after a heavy downpour that started in the morning on the Anatolian side, a car got stuck while driving through an underpass.
At the moment, at least five people are known to have died as a result of a severe flood that hit central Turkey.
The body of a man who had been missing for two days was found afternoon, Turkey’s public disaster agency
The province of Istanbul was particularly hard hit, where four people died last weekend.
Buses falling under water, collapsing walls and heavy traffic left Istanbul residents disappointed as heavy rains and flash floods swept through the Turkish metropolis.
