Rescuers found no more survivors in the overturned and mangled wreckage of two passenger trains that derailed in eastern India, killing more than 280 people and injuring hundreds in one of the country’s deadliest rail crashes in decades, officials said Saturday.
Chaotic scenes erupted after the derailment on Friday night about 220 kilometers (137 miles) southwest of Kolkata, as rescuers climbed atop the wrecked trains to break open doors and windows using cutting torches.
The death toll rose steadily throughout the night. Scores of bodies, covered by white sheets, lay on the ground near the tracks while locals and rescuers raced to free the hundreds of people trapped in the rail cars under the twisted metal and broken glass. Army soldiers and air force helicopters joined the effort.

Do some research man. 150 years ago infrastructure used today? Are you kidding me. Look at the footage you used only, the tracks are electrified and it was due to some electronic switching issue which caused train to goto loop line which caused the crash. Now they suspect foul play, not just a signal failure. Whatever the case, even neglect, I hope those responsible are brought to justice.
So sad this happened. I am curious as to how well the ground has been leveled B4 tracks are laid bcz if u visualize a hot wheels track for a moment on unlevel ground wit a hot wheels car going. When the car comes to a dip, the track should be directly under the car if it so happens to catch a bit of air. Going up or down. If not, & 2 wheels land on the track with the other 2 landing on the ground, a crash is guaranteed. Speed+bump=airtime. Airtime+bad landing/crooked landing=crash.
I cant fathom this. train has been an essential part of transportation system in India. may be there is the fail safe protection system is not enable or not even available. accidents on road or track are so common due to system failure, administration failure and people not following the rules.
