I am confused by the comments here. Sure, assault is a big deal, but without seeing the actual footage, all the calls that this was legitimate self-defence would never fly in most other countries with good reason: a handgun is considerably more lethal than physical violence, so it is not a measured response; it's quite literally "overkill." You don't drive a nail into softer woods with a sledgehammer.
The way you guys talk about this so casually and and smiling during this type of conversation is beyond disturbing.
Question for all those who think the son did the right thing. What if it was a white police officer who shot the man to protect the mom? There'd be riots for weeks.

I'm glad all charges were dropped. If you put your hands on someone and it isn't in defence then you forfeit your right to breath. I don't care what color you are. You have a right to defend yourself. Her telling her son to end the dude for talking though is wrong. In that case she should have been charged. The sad truth is though that had the shooter and his mother been white the charges would not have been dropped.

It's self defence what if the guy beat her to death? And why did police arrest the mother and son in fist case without knowing the truth is all on video and witnesses. So they had to go through so much trauma. That guy probably abuses his own mother or woman. And the son helped his mother looks like the son is young if he had to fight that guy that guy would probably killed him to. Son got respect for his mother.
The son committed multiple crimes. 1) being a minor in possession of a firearm 2) he entered the restaurant with a concealed weapon which is technically a attempted robbery 3) you shoot to disarm. The man retreated and he shot him in the back multiple times and that’s just what the son did
She never said go get the gun she told him to get in the car cause he was witnessing her arguing with him so he got out the car so see what was going on
ALL gun laws are Unconstitutional…and if anyone ever pursued it in court, the opposition would not have anything to back up their argument. But gun owners have the 2nd amendment as their legal foundation to own a weapon. And the type of weapons were never specified because even the founding fathers, who were smart cookies, knew that advances in weapons would eventually occur because they did prior to the creation of the 2nd amendment. And once again, you can ban all the guns you want, the criminals will STILL not adhere to them but the rest of us law abiding citizens will be in danger.
