  1. the shark reveal ( 8:53 ) and Brody's rapid pop-up in the next cut have always been my most favorite scene i've ever watched in any movie or show. that reaction is just epic

  2. the thing about The Ritual is, the movie is utterly MADE by the brilliance of that reveal. Without that incredible monster design, the rest of the film would be fine but not memorable. It's pretty straightforward. But that creature, OH MAN, that creature is one of the best modern movie monsters to date. Whole movie is worth it for that final reveal.

  3. There is a Deadly Spawn sequel — I actually saw it before I saw Deadly Spawn. (And what makes Deadly Spawn so good is the combination of surprisingly decent effects with 'actors' who are actually the friends and family of the film-makers and are therefore portrayed with unusual sympathy. They're so nice, you actually hate to see them get eaten.) Anyway — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamorphosis:_The_Alien_Factor#:~:text=Metamorphosis%3A%20The%20Alien%20Factor%2C%20also,and%20produced%20by%20Ted%20A.

  4. I loved the Ritual. Monsters that force the protags to face their own fears to fight back are one of the best.

  5. My grandma is a very religious woman and her whole life she never watched any horror movies until Pumpkin Head came out in '88 and she has seen this movie several and I mean SEVERAL times throughout all these years. It's one of her favorites and still the only horror flick she's ever watched in her life🤷🏾‍♀️🤣🤣🤣

  6. The momma bear in Prophecy 1979. The scene on the lake as the chieftain attempts to commune with Katahdin, chills. Still a favorite every Halloween night! And oh, yea, the bubbles as it tries to cross the lake. Such a fun, scary film.

  7. Can you put a little more life to you speech? I know you are an emo goth whatever girl but this is worst listening to the waitress telling you the menu

  8. The reveal in Ritual completely ruined it for me. That movie was so creepy but the monster just took away any sense of terror and dread

  9. The Pumpakinhead daemon is fucking TERRIFYING. I loved that movie as a child, and I love it even more as adult. That monster design is iconic.

Also, Moder is 100% exactly how I would picture some ancient god of the woodlands would look.

  10. Gonna have to respectfully disagree with Silent Hill being anything but a cash grab, Pyramid Head had nothing to do with the plot of the first game which the movie was based on, in large part a lot of the monsters didn’t belong there, which is a big thing because Silent Hill manifests based on the psyche of specific people

  11. I watched the ritual like, 3 years ago and have not watched it again because it freaked me out SO BAD but the monster reveal was amazing

  12. Wait the Ants from Them! When that one finally shows up it's fantastic the moment it comes on screen for a movie so old is so well done.

  13. What about the Mutant Amphibian from The Host? That one deserves a spot on this list.
And I know it's from a T.V. show, but the parasite from The X-Files Season 2 Episode 2: The Host, that was one scary mf.

  14. the tragedy of showing the spider head at 1:00 and crediting stan winston with the breathtaking special effects done for the thing is that he did not work on that particular scene and specifically asked to be omitted from the credits so as not to take away from the genius toiling of rob bottin. winston was called in to work on the dog thing shown in the kennel, but was so impressed with the work rob bottin had done on the rest of the film that he requested he not be mentioned in the credits for fear that nobody would give bottin his due.

  15. I can't recommend Lake Mungo highly enough. Very understated, and the creative double-use of visuals (first you see it, then you REALLY see it) through the "documentary" was very unsettling.

  16. "Pumpkinhead" is an unfortunately daft title for a surprisingly decent creature-feature, but luckily I'm British and the film was released as "Vengeance the Demon" over here. That's the name I knew it by, back in VHS rental days. A much less campy title, and actually accurate to the film's storyline.

  17. Bit corny afterwards but the red faced demon in the picture pointing to the kids bed and then showing his face behind the dad at the table was class

  18. Now I know Barbarian sucks. So I forgive you for the spoiler, lol. #4 shocking scene was randomly shown on YT… I knew Jaws would be at the top of the list. This reveal is iconic. I would also add the creeper in Jeepers Creepers. And maybe Angela’s true identity in Sleepaway Camp. Just added Ritual to me watchlist.
